Mechatronics Aplications

There are Three kind of mechatronics aplication that we can fine in our
Common life consist of computer controlling, computer Monitoring, and
combination between computer controlling and computer Monitoring. We are
going to talk about one example each one.
1. Computer Monitoring and computer controlling
One of example in mechatronics for computer Monitoring and
computer controlling is heating/cooling system for home or Office.

Simple systems use a bimetal thermostat with contact points
controlling a mercury switch that turns on and off the furnace or air
conditioner. A modern environmental control system uses these same
basic components along with other components and computer program
control. A emperature sensor monitors the physical environment and
produces a voltage. After conversion by the ADC, the microcontroller uses
the digitized temperatur data along with a 24-hour clock and the user
requested temperatures to produce a digital control signal.
This signal directs the actuator, usually a simple electrical switch
in this example. The switch, in turn, controls a motor to turn the heating or
cooling unit on or off. New measurements are then taken and the cycle is
repeated. While not a mechatronic product on the order of a camcorder, it
is a mechatronic system because of its combination of mechanical,
electrical, and computer components. This system may also incorporate
some additional features. If the temperature being sensed is quite high, say
80C, it is possible that a fire exists. It is then not a good idea to turn on
the blower fan and feed the fire more oxygen. Instead the system should
set off an alarm or use a data communication device to alert the fire
department. Because of this type of computer control, the system is
smart, at least relative to the older mercury-switch controlled systems.

Fig.2. remote control
One example for computer controlling device is remote Control.
A remote control is a component of an electronics device most commonly
a television set, DVD player, or home theater system originally used for
operating the device wirelessly from a short line-of-sight distance. Remote
control has continually evolved and advanced over recent years to
include Bluetoothconnectivity, motion sensor-enabled capabilities
and voice control. Commonly, remote controls are Consumer IR devices
used to issue commands from a distance to televisions or other consumer
electronics such as stereo systems, DVD players and dimmers.
Remote controls for these devices are usually small wireless
handheld objects with an array of buttons for adjusting various settings
such astelevision channel, track number, and volume. In fact, for the
majority of modern devices with this kind of control, the remote control
contains all the function controls while the controlled device itself has
only a handful of essential primary controls. Most of these remote
controls communicate to their respective devices via infrared signals and
a few via radio signals.
3. Computer Monitoring
One example of mechatronics equipment for computer Monitoring
is teleseismometer.

Fig.3. teleseismometer

The modern broadband seismograph can record a very broad range
of frequencies. It consists of a small "proof mass", confined by electrical
forces, driven by sophisticated electronics. As the earth moves, the
electronics attempt to hold the mass steady through a feedback circuit. The
amount of force necessary to achieve this is then recorded.
In most designs the electronics holds a mass motionless relative to the
frame. This device is called a "force balance accelerometer". It
measures acceleration instead of velocity of ground movement. Basically,
the distance between the mass and some part of the frame is measured very
precisely, by a linear variable differential transformer. Some instruments
use a linear variable differential capacitor.
That measurement is then amplified by electronic amplifiers attached
to parts of an electronic negative feedback loop. One of the amplified
currents from the negative feedback loop drives a coil very like
a loudspeaker, except that the coil is attached to the mass, and the magnet
is mounted on the frame. The result is that the mass stays nearly
motionless.
Most instruments measure directly the ground motion using the
distance sensor. The voltage generated in a sense coil on the mass by the
magnet directly measures the instantaneous velocity of the ground. The
current to the drive coil provides a sensitive, accurate measurement of the
force between the mass and frame, thus measuring directly the ground's
acceleration (using f=ma where f=force, m=mass, a=acceleration).
