WELCOME
Fast Forward. Why do you fast? What motivates you to fast?
WORD
Ephesians 1:13
In Him, you also, after listening to the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation -- having also believed, you
were sealed in Him with the Holy Spirit of promise.

We fast not just to stop doing things, but we fast
so that we can do things that will impact our
heart. Christians can do things not by willpower
but by Gods power.

When we do things by our own willpower for
example to love our enemy, to forgive, to pay evil
with good, or to keep away from temptations, we
only find ourselves struggling and we may become
depressed, anxious, sad, bitter and restless.

But the fruit of the Holy Spirit is love, joy, peace,
patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,
gentleness and self-control (Galatians 5: 22-23).
The fruit comes out in the life of a Christian who is
filled with the Holy Spirit. Christians are indwelt
by the Holy Spirit and are also capable of being
filled with the Holy Spirit to appropriate Gods
power in their life.

In our prayer and fasting, we can consciously and
constantly appropriate the power of God in our
life.

How can we appropriate Gods power in our life
based on the Scriptures, in Romans 6:1-13?
1. Know (Romans 6:1-9)
knowing this, that our old self was crucified with
Him, that our body of sin might be done away
with, that we should no longer be slaves to sin.
Romans 6:6
First, what is our old self? It does not refer to our
old sinful nature but to who we are before we
became a Christian- a natural man slave to sin.
From a natural man, you became a spiritual man
united to Christ and now a slave to Him. You died
to sin and have been separated from the sin
nature. The sin nature did not disappear though; it
still exists, very tempting and strong, but it is now
powerless. It does not anymore have authority to
control you because you are sealed by the Holy
Spirit in Christ. As a result of this union with Jesus,
you have been raised up into a quality and
capability of a new life.
2. Consider (Romans 6:11)
Even so consider yourselves to be dead to sin, but
alive to God in Christ Jesus. Romans 6:11
The word consider is a financial term in the
original language in Greek. Which means taking
into account what is true in your finances.

Consider what you know. It is not about knowing
something new but to consider something that you
knew but you were not thinking deeply about.

You cannot just learn that you have died to sin and
buried with Christ, and have been raised up, but
you have to consider the reality of what that
means.
3. Present (Romans 6:13)
Do not go on presenting the members of your
body to sin as instruments of unrighteousness; but
present yourselves to God as those alive from the
dead and your members as instruments of
righteousness to God. Romans 6:13
Present the members of your body to God: Your
eyes with what you see; your ears with what you
listen to; your mouth, what you say; your feet,
where you go; your mind, what you think about;
your heart with what you embrace, etc.

WORD (contd)
All your sins are related to the members of your
body. When you face a hill in your life - you give up
your mouth, eyes, ears, to present them back to
God. Make a presentation of your body before you
begin your day and say to God, Lord I give them
back to You - my hand, my heart and my eyes.

When you get to the place where you are
convinced that in the power of your flesh you
cannot do it but only in the power of the Holy
Spirit, that is when God begins to work powerfully
in and through your life.
Know the truth and the truth will set you free. But
it does not stop by just knowing. Just to know is
not good enough. You can know and not present,
you can present and not know.
Theres nothing in Gods word that ever looks at
the past to determine if you are a Christian today.
Being a Christian is always in present tense and
always has to do with the fruit in your life. If you
want to appropriate the power of God in your life,
dont just say Im committed or Im yielded. There
must be a presenting of the heart. Youve got to
know, consider what you know and present
yourself to God.

Discussion Questions:
(Leaders: Please choose questions that are appropriate to the level of spiritual maturity of your members)
1. Sealed with the Holy Spirit. How are we sealed with the Holy Spirit according to Ephesians 1:13?
2. Are you a Christian? What makes you say you are Christian? Did you ever have doubts that you are?
3. KPC. If you are a Christian, what do you know that you consider, and you are presenting to God? What
are you willing to stop and start doing today to apply the principles you learned?
