Spel l i ng Cont ract
Students must complete this contract weekly. Late spelling homework will result in a drop of a letter grade each day it is late.
Unless otherwise stated, use all 20 spelling words for each activity selected below. You must complete 3 activities from the list below.
Each assignment is worth 25 points. Please use front and back of paper to do assignments (we want to save trees). Everyone must
complete #16. So with the three that you choose plus #16, it is total of four assignments turned in on Friday with each being
25 points. Assignments must be initialed by a parent or a guardian. Please note that doing the same assignments each week
is not an option.

1. Type your words in an email to Ms. Hawkins.

2. Make a word search. Bring for a classmate to
complete.
3. Write the words in alphabetical order.
4. Type words in different fonts on the computer. Print
out the words and bring them to school.
5. Create an I-Spy game by drawing a picture and hiding
your spelling words within the picture.
6. Create word pyramids for each of your words.
7. Write your words in order from shortest to longest,
then longest to shortest.
8. Write words three times each in cursive or print.
9. Write each of your spelling words alternating between
capital and lowercase letters. Ex. GeOrGiA
10. Write each spelling word. Next to each word, write an
additional word that can be spelled using the letters in
the word. Ex. broken= bore
11. Dribble a basketball and spell each word, saying one
letter each time the ball bounces. (Parent must write
and sign a note stating that you completed this in their
presence.)
12. Write each word as many times as it has syllables.
13. Divide the words into at least 3 groups, and explain
what each group has in common.
14. Syllable Spelling - Write your words in cursive or print,
then separate according to the syllables. You may
use a dictionary. Ex Con-tract
15. For each spelling word, change one or two letters to
make a new word.
16. Take a practice test on Thursday with a parent and
grade it. *****
(Parents signature required on test.)
17. Write your spelling words and number them. Circle
the words that have numbers divisible by 3, star the
words divisible by 2, and underline the words divisible
by 5.
18. Write your words in Morse Code (Morse Code on the
back.
19. Write your words in Braille (Braille on the back)
20. Sentence Building Complete a sentence building
sheet. (Located in the classroom)
21. Write the words and circle all of the vowels and
underline all of the consonants.


22. Make a crossword puzzle.
23. Using a thesaurus, find synonyms for 10 of your
words.
24. Choo Choo Words - Write your words in cursive
connecting all the words. Write each word in a
different color.
25. Make a mobile that displays all of your spelling
words. Be creative. Each piece of your mobile should
have your word and an illustration.
26. Make a picture dictionary using your words. Each
page should show all the words that go with that
letter, an illustration, and a definition. You may also
choose to use a different page for each word. Just be
sure that all words are in alphabetical order.
27. Guide Words- Look up each of your words in the
dictionary. Write down the guide words that are found
at the top of the page for each word.
28. Write each word as a fraction. Ex. Broke 2/6 vowels
4/6 consonants
29. Write your words with all the letters mixed up. Then
ask a friend to unscramble the words. Correct your
friends paper.
30. Create a product on a poster you would like to sell
and use at least ten of the words to advertise
it. Include the product, name, illustration, and cost. .
31. Write a TV commercial for your favorite toy using at
least ten of your spelling words.
32. Write tongue twisters using at least ten of your
spelling words.
33. Make "Secret Agent Words" by numbering the
alphabet from 1 to 26 and converting your words to a
number code.
34. Make a cartoon strip telling a story. Include dialogue
using the spelling words.
35. Write a poem, and underline the words.
36. Write a story, but instead of writing the words, draw a
small picture of each word.
37. Create a code using numbers for each letter of the
alphabet. Compute the numerical value of each word.
List the words from the highest to lowest value. (a=1,
b=2, c=3, d=4, etc. Example: bad: 2 + 1 + 4 = 7)
38. Telephone Words Write your words in cursive or
print, and then translate your words into numbers
from a telephone keypad. (See keypad on back.)
39. Illustrate 10 of your words.
40. Create 5 newspaper headlines using your spelling
words.
41. Write a rap using at least 10 of your words.
