The committee recommends that the admission should be through JAM (similar
to the M.Sc. programmes) and Departments can provide additional criteria for the
qualifications (as per normal JAM procedure)

The credit requirement for the M.Sc.-h.D. programme should include !"#-!$#
credits for the M.Sc. programme (as per the Mu%hopadh&a& committee). An additional
credit requirement of '"-($ credits is recommended for the Dual degree programme.
The total credits for the Dual degree programme )ill range bet)een !$"-!*$ credits.
The distribution of credits in each semester )ould be as per the Mu%hopadh&a&
committee guidelines ((+-"# credits as per semester). ,o)ever- a minimum of !' credits
out of the additional '"-($ credits should be for supervised learning.

The committee recommends that each department can decide on )hether or not
to include a qualifier. The rules for the M.Sc.-h.D. should be consistent )ith the
department polic& for h.D. admissions.

The h.D. registration )ould normall& be confirmed in the fifth semester or in the
semester in )hich the student )ill complete the total credit requirement as specified
credit structure.

The Annual progress evaluation )ill start after one &ear of the date of the h.D.
registration and thereafter the institute rule governing h.D. )ill follo).

The financial support be provided for a ma/imum period of $ &ears. 0s. $### 1-
pm. )ill be paid from the date of 2oining the M.Sc.-h.D dual degree programme till the
date of confirmation of h.D. registration. 0s.!'### 1- pm. )ill be paid for one &ear after
confirmation of h.D. registration. Alternatel& the& can get TAship 3 0s.!'###1- from the
commencement of 4 semester if the& qualif& for the specified national e/amination in the
information brochure for h.D. Admission as prevalent at that time (56. 1 .S70 1
6AT8 1 D9T 1 7.M0 etc.) The TAship )ill be enhanced to 0s.!"###1- per month for the
subsequent t)o &ears. :or the remaining period of the duration the TAship )ill be 0s.

During the course )or% the student should maintain the academic requirement as
per the institute polic& governing h.D. programme.

7f the student is not able to maintain the minimum academic requirement of the
h.D. programme.- he1she ma& be permitted to leave the programme on case to case
basis request. 5nder no circumstances he1she should be a)arded an additional M.hil
degree as this could lead to all %ind of situations )here the student purposefull& leaves
the programme after si/ semesters. This could lead to imbalances and the committee
)as unanimous that the same e/it polic& that governs the Dual- Degree students
admitted through J88 should be in force. 7f a student )ants to leave the programme on
his o)n his case should be considered on individual basis b& the department.

Since the committee adopted the Mu%hopadh&a& committee report as the basic
building bloc% on )hich this report is being given- it )ill maintain coherence )ith the
e/isting (or revised as per Mu%hopadh&a& committee report) M.Sc. programmes in the
