All Questions carry equal marks

1. Discuss the procedure for fault current calculation in following faults:
(a) 3-phase fault.
(b) Single Line-Ground fault.
(c) Double Line-Ground fault.
(d) Line - Line fault. [44]
2. (a) Explain the salient points in general co-ordination procedure.
(b) Explain Fuse-Recloser coordination. [8+8]
3. (a) What do you understand by sizing of the capacitors ? And how do you justify
economically the connection of capacitors for the p.f improvement.
(b) A 3-phase, 50Hz , 2000V induction motor develops 440H.P at a power fac-
tor 0.7 lag and eciency 90% .The power factor is to be raised to unity by
connecting a bank of condensers in delta across supply mains. If each of the
capacitance unit built up of 4 similar 560V condensers, calculate the required
capacitance of each condenser and its KVA rating. [8+8]

5. (a) Give detailed analysis of three phase balanced primary lines
(b) Consider a balanced 3 phase circuit having V
s
and V
r
are the sending and
receiving end voltages respectively. R+jX is the total impedance of lines and
I is the total current passing through the circuit. Find the load power factor
for which the voltage drop is maximum? [8+8]
6. Give comparison between four and six feeder patterns. [16]
7. (a) The input to a sub-transmission system is 87.610
6
kWh annually. On the
peak load day of the year the peak is 25000kW and the energy input on that
day is 310
6
kWh. Find the load factors for the year and for the peak load
day.
(b) Discuss the load modeling and its characteristics. [8+8]
8. (a) Explain about the Induction type regulator.
