ARK is an international charity whose purpose is to transform children’s lives by managing and
delivering programmes across three core themes: HIV/AIDS (South Africa and Mozambique),
Education (UK and India) and Children in Care (Eastern Europe). ARK applies rigorous business
principles to its programmes ensuring they are efficient, accountable and deliver measurable
social returns. ARK was founded by a group of senior figures in the alternative investment
industry who share a vision of collective philanthropy. ARK’s Board of Trustees and Patrons
ensure all administrative costs are met so that 100 per cent of donations are used to deliver its
programmes.

programme ensures that HIV+ mothers and children receive life-saving drugs, support
and care. Partnering with local government ARK enables rapid and large-scale delivery
through local clinics. With 24,870 HIV+ carers and children currently on ART, ARK is the
largest NGO provider of treatment in South Africa. By 2010 ARK aims to enrol over 32,000
patients. Following the success of the ART programme in South Africa, ARK is rolling out this
programme to Mozambique and aims to enrol 5,000 HIV+ mothers, caregivers and children
onto ART by 2010.
Education
ARK works to transform children’s educational opportunities through the development of
Academy schools and intensive training of future headteachers and middle leaders for the
UK’s inner-city schools. ARK has a network of six academies open in London, and aims to have
12 academies operational in the UK by 2012. ARK recently launched a training programme
for headteachers in India, to tackle the quality of schooling and keep children in school. ARK
plans to train 232 high-impact school leaders by 2011.
Children in Care
ARK works in Eastern Europe to close large-scale institutions for children, reuniting them with
their parents or reintegrating them into their extended family. ARK has closed a total of 11
institutions and moved over 1,600 children into family-focused environments. ARK aims to
support the closure of a total of 24 institutions by 2010. ARK is also establishing foster care
systems and prevention of abandonment programmes.
