Here is an IELTS General Training Writing Task 1
practice.
The local council has decided to build a block of
flats on the park opposite the place where you are
living.
Write a letter to the editor of the local newspaper
;
- Where did you hear this news and your opinion
- The reason why you protest it
- Make suggestions for what people can or
should do to stop the development.
You should write at least 150 words.
You do NOT need to write your address or the
address of the newspaper.
Start the letter as follows:
Dear..,
Sample answer:
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing to your newspaper to protest about the
proposed development of Newtown Park opposite
where I live.
The local council has written to us saying that they are
going to build a huge five-storey block of flats on the
part next year. I strongly object to this proposal, and
so do my neigoubours.

My name is Jeffrey Wang. I was born in Qingdao,
China, and I am living in Melbourne at the
moment. I have been teaching IELTS and ESL
classes for over 5 years. Now I am working as an
instructor at 51ielts training center in
Melbourne and the course coordinator of IT and
ESL (EAL) programs in Melbourne Institute of
Commerce. I decided to focus on IELTS
teaching when I realised how important this exam
was in the lives of my students. I believe that a
good teacher can make a huge difference in
helping students to pass the exam as quickly as
possible. I am constantly refining my teaching,
and put a lot of my ideas and materials on my
teaching classes and this blog:

it is true that people have to have a place to live, they
have to have a place to play as well. If the council
goes ahead and builds this apartment block, our
children would lose their playground. Besides, that is
the only park we have in this suburb.
We need this park, and we need the trees and the
green space that it provides. If you agree that we
must save our lovely park, write to this newspaper and
tell the council how you feel about their development
plans. Write to me and perhaps we can ask people to
sign a petition to stop the project.
Yours faithfully,
Jeffrey Wang

You
should use comma.
And I also dont think
the punctuation is a big
issue in IELTS writing.
