ACADEMICS: WAR OF THE WITS

I. Eligibility and Qualification of Participants
Participants must be enrolled in any undergraduate, graduate, post-graduate, and vocational-
technical programs of the university during the first semester of the current academic year (AY
2014-2015).
Participants will represent their college, school, or center where they are enrolled.
Four (4) participants must compose a team. Two (2) teams are allowed to join per college, school,
or center.
Official registration sheets are available through the respective student councils.
Student councils will be given the liberty on how to choose their final participants.
Student councils are expected to give the registration sheet on 10 September 2014, 6:00 PM, to
Schaneen Gaye Poloyapoy.


II. Competition Guidelines
Competition will be held on 19 September 2014, 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM. Venue for the competition
will be communicated as soon as the venue is reserved.
Each team is provided with an answer board. They will be writing their answers on the board.
While the question is read, the team must raise the markers or chalk provided. They can only
write their answers once the quizmaster says go.
All teams will answer the same set of questions in writing.
The quizmaster will read the questions twice. After reading the question for the second time
around, the quizmaster will say go.
Teams are given fifteen seconds to write their answers after the signal given by the quizmaster.
When fifteen seconds is up, teams must stop writing, and must raise their answer boards.
The quizmaster shall read and verify the answers of the teams.
There will be four (4) rounds in the competition namely: Easy, Average, Difficult and Clincher.
The Clincher Round will only take place if there is a tie.
The Easy Round will have ten (10) questions worth one (1) point each; the Average Round has
ten (10) questions worth two (2) points each; and the Difficult Round has ten (10) questions worth
three (3) points each.
After the last question in the Difficult Round, the total number of points of each contestant is
tabulated. Since there is no elimination during the three rounds, a team may obtain a total score
of sixty (60) points at the end of the three rounds.
In case of a tie in the top three places, a Clincher Round will take place. Quizmaster will ask as
many questions until one team emerges to get the correct answer, and break the tie.
Top three teams will be declared as winners at the end of the competition. Winners shall be
awarded during The Xavier Cup Closing Ceremonies on 20 September 2014. Cash prizes will be
given to the winners.
Results will not hold any bearing to the overall score during the intramurals.
Protests regarding the results will not be entertained.
