A GUIDE TO THE USE OF THE OLYMPUS NIS
SQL

HISTOLOGY_PRACTICAL DATABASE.

A. Logging in from OlyVia viewer (intranet of LF, UP):

1. Open OlyVia viewer installed on a PC at the practical room or a public area
(antav study room, and room n. TD 2.532) Look for this short cut icon.

2. Go to Database tab Open Open Database logging in table Fill in here the following data:
Database name: HISTOLOGY_PRACTICAL
Server: 158.194.8.20\OSIS_MSSQLSRV
Database system: Microsoft SQL server
Autentication: SQL autentication
NAME: student
Password: student

OK Enter

3. In the Tree View window , there is a root icon of the database
HISTOLOGY_PRACTICAL, with folders for Semester 1. or 2.
practicals and subfolders for Practicals n. 01-23 with virtual
slides. Thumbnails of virtual slides are visible in the Tree view
window as well as in the Gallery View window.









4. After double clicking, virtual slides open in Olyvia View
tab. The right hand side panel contain Image navigator,
Adjust display and Properties windows with tabs
Properties, Annotations a Record Details.

5. Closing the Database:
In the Database menue
select CLOSE.

B. Logging in from OlyVia viewer (public internet connection):

1. Install freeware OlyVia v. 2.5 (best works with a build 9483)

2. Open Olyviia viewer

3. Go to Database tab Open Open Database logging in table Fill in here the following data:
Server name or IP address: 158.194.8.20
Protocol: TCP
Port: 8085
Database name: HISTOLOGY_PRACTICAL
Authentication: SQL autentication
NAME: student
Password: student

OK Enter

4. Navigation to practicals and viewing virtual slides is
Similar to operation of OlyVia in intranet LF, UP.
Download of virtual slides data can be a little bit slower
(depending upon the speed of internet connection in your
place). In the Tree View window , there is a root icon of
the database HISTOLOGY_PRACTICAL, with folders for
Semester 1. or 2. practicals and subfolders for Practicals n. 01-
23 with virtual slides. Thumbnails of virtual slides are visible in
the Tree view window as well as in the Gallery View
window.









5. Closing the Database:
In the Database menue
select CLOSE.

C. Logging in from a web browser (Internet Explorer, Firefox, Chrome)
(public internet connection):


1. Open a web browser / New panel


2. Type a web link address: http://158.194.8.20/WebDatabaseClient/dbWebAccount.aspx
Enter


3. Fill in here the following the log in data: Net Image Server
SQL
- Web Access





























Please enter your user ID and password:
User Name: student
Password: student
Database: HISTOLOGY_PRACTICAL

Click --> Login

4. In the window Image Search into the Image Category search filter write number of the practical
to study : e.g. 02 23 (double digit numbers)).
























Click > Search


5. Virtual slides in the NIS-SQL database can be searched
also by other search filters e.g. - Image name, - Organ,
- Author, - Species, - Staining, - Creation Time,
- Preparation and many other criteria selectable from
a picklist (roll down menu).
Search criteria can be variably combined as seen in
these examples.

6. In the Search Result window the thumbnails of virtual slides for selected practical session are seen.
(It can be in one or more pages.) e.g. Page 1 of 2

7. After clicking the thumbnail of a virtual slide, it opens in a new panel of the web browser-based
virtual slides viewer (Adobe Flash Player), where you can observe slides similarly to OlyVia, except for
some special functions and with limited informations about slide and scanning properties . When
changing the field of view and magnification, the download of new data can be a little bit slower as
compared to intranet observation of virtual slides in OlyVia.

5 Magnification selection buttons (fixed steps)
6 Continuous magnification selection bar
7 Magnification information display
8 Increasing stepwise magnification
9 Decreasing stepwise magnification
10 Full size (maximum) magnification
11 Small size (minimum) magnification
12 Joystick for slide shift (field relocation)
13 Magnification bar (with a unit display)

7. To end the observation: Close the virtual slides viewer
panel and in the web browser window click --> Logoff
