56nel lifts 3ithin a higher.le=el storage management system.
The control system itself does not ha=e storage location management.
)ll data records> including storage locations> are sent directly to the
control system in an )#C++.formatted file using the FTP protocol. 0ach
data record represents a re?uest to store into or retrie=e from storage.
The control system ta<es the data records and sa=es them into a data
record buffer until the store or retrie=e procedure has been carried out.
The transfer of data ta<es place o=er an automated transfer interface.
This re?uires the e2istence of an FTP ser=er on the 5ost'PC system
side.
)s an alternati=e to the 56nel data record format> a custom.tailored
C#@ file format can be implemented.
For host communication> a 1&'1&& 97it 0thernet connection is
re?uired bet3een the 9P 12,.5:5-#T.D)T); and the host system.

The file transmission bet3een 5-#T and 9P 12,.5 is based on a
cyclic ?uery of the outbo2 =ia the 9P12,.5. +f there is a file in the
outbo2 of the FTP ser=er 3ith a =alid file name e2tension> it is
transferred to the 9P 12,.5. The control system then responds to the
host by 3riting a response file into the inbo2. +f a response file is
already present> the 9P 12,.5 appends a ne3 line to the file for each
response.
The data transmission can be carried out 3ith the help of =arious data
record formats.
