Some Important method, used by RBI to control Supply of Money

o Repo Rate- Repo rate is the rate at which RBI lends to commercial banks generally against
government securities.
o Reverse Repo Rate- Reverse Repo rate is the rate at which RBI borrows money from the
commercial banks.
o Cash Reserve Ratio - Cash Reserve Ratio is a certain percentage of bank deposits which banks
are required to keep with RBI in the form of reserves or balances .
o Statutory Liquidity Ratio- Every financial institution has to maintain a certain quantity of liquid
assets with themselves at any point of time of their total time and demand liabilities.
o Bank Rate- The bank rate, also known as the discount rate, is the rate of interest charged by the
RBI for providing funds or loans to the banking system.
o Open market Operation- An open market operation is an instrument of monetary policy which
involves buying or selling of government securities from or to the public and banks.


Regional Rural Banks

RRBs have been created with a view to serve primarily the rural areas of India with basic banking
and financial services.
Regional Rural Banks were established under the provisions of an Ordinance passed on 26
September 1975 and the RRB Act. 1976
These were set up on the recommendations of The Narasimham Working Group.
The development process of RRBs started on 2 October 1975 with the with forming the first
RRB, the Prathama Bank.
RRB's are recognized by the law and they have legal significance.The Regional Rural Banks Act,
1976 Act No. 21 Of 1976 [9 February 1976.]

NABARD (National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development)

This is an apex development bank in India.
Headquarter- Mumbai, Maharashtra
Established- 12 July 1982
Present Chairman- Dr. Harsh Kumar Bhanwala
NABARD was established on the recommendations of Shivaraman Committee and under
National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development Act 1981.
It replaced the Agricultural Credit Department (ACD) and Rural Planning and Credit Cell (RPCC)
of Reserve Bank of India, and Agricultural Refinance and Development Corporation (ARDC).
NABARD is the apex institution in the country which looks after the development of the cottage
industry, small industry and village industry, and other rural industries.

Union Budget 2014-15 Highlights

Income tax exemption limit raised by Rs 50,000 to Rs 2.5 lakh and for senior citizens to Rs 3 lakh.

Exemption limit for investment in financial instruments under 80C raised to Rs 1.5 lakh from Rs 1
lakh.

Investment limit in PPF raised to Rs 1.5 lakh from Rs 1 lakh.

Deduction limit on interest on loan for self-occupied house raised to Rs 2 lakh from Rs 1.5 lakh.

Kisan Vikas Patra to be reintroduced, National Savings Certificate with insurance cover to be
launched.

Long term capial gain tax for mutual funds doubled to 20 pc; lock-in period increased to 3 years.

Mandatory wage ceiling of subscription to EPS (Employee Pension Scheme) raised from Rs 6,500
.to Rs 15,000.

Minimum pension increased to Rs 1,000 per month.

LCD, LED TV become cheaper.

Cigarettes, pan masala, tobacco, and aerated drinks become costlier.

New projects

5 IIMs to be opened in HP, Punjab, Bihar, Odisha and Rajasthan.

5 more IITs in Jammu, Chattisgarh, Goa, Andhra Pradesh and Kerala.

4 more AIIMS like institutions to come up in Andhra Pradesh, West Bengal, Vidarbha in
Maharashtra and Poorvanchal in Uttar Pradesh.

Rail Budget 2014-15 Highlights

o No new increase in passenger fares and freight charges.

o Bullet train in Mumbai-Ahmedabad sector.

o Diamond quadrilateral for high speed trains.

o Plan to hike speed of trains to 160-200 km/hr in 9 sectors.

o Online booking to support 7,200 tickets per minute; to allow 1.2 lakh users log in simultaneously

o Reservation system to be revamped, ticket-booking through mobile phones, post offices to be
popularized.

o Online platform for unreserved tickets.

o Combo parking-platform tickets at stations.

o Women RPF Constables to escort ladies coaches; 4,000 women constables to be inducted.

territorial integrity, the G7 leaders decided to meet in Brussels on 4-5 June 2014 in the G7
format instead.

Bathakamma-A folk dance of Andhra Pradesh.
Bhangra-This is a folk dance from the Northwest Indian state of Punjab. It is a lively, powerful
dance.
Bihu- Bihu is a folk dance from Assam. It is a very brisk and aggressive dance performed by both
boys and girls.

Changu- The changu dance is a folk dance found in Odissa and Andhra Pradesh. It derives its
name from the changu, which is a simple tambourine (daf) that is used to accompany this dance.
