Introduction

Christianity is a Semitic religion, which claims to have nearly 1.2 billion

adherents all over the world. Christianity owes its name to Jesus Christ
(peace be on him). The oly !ible is the sacred scripture o" the
Christians#
a) The !ible is divided into two parts, the $ld Testament and the %ew
Testament. The $ld Testament is the oly Scripture o" the Jews and
contains records o" all the prophets o" the Jews that came be"ore Jesus
(pbuh).
The %ew Testament contains records o" the li"e o" Jesus (pbuh).
b) The complete !ible, i.e. the $ld Testament and the %ew Testament
put together, contains &' boo(s. owever, the )rotestant !ible i.e. the
*ing James +ersion, contains only ,, boo(s as they consider &
boo(s o" the $ld Testament to be apocrypha, i.e. o" doubt"ul authority.
There"ore the $ld Testament o" the Catholics, contains -, boo(s and that o" the )rotestants, '.
boo(s. owever the %ew Testament o" both these sects contains 2& boo(s.
CONCEPT OF GOD IN CHRISTIANITY
by Dr. Zakir Naik
I) Position of Js!s "#b!$) in Is%a&'
(i)/slam is the only non0Christian "aith, which ma(es it an article o"
"aith to believe in Jesus (pbuh). %o 1uslim is a 1uslim i" he does not
believe in Jesus (pbuh).

(ii) 2e believe that he was one o" the mightiest 1essengers o" 3llah
(swt).

(iii) 2e believe that he was born miraculously, without any male
intervention, which many modern day Christians do not believe.

(iv) 2e believe he was the 1essiah translated Christ (pbuh).

(v) 2e believe that he gave li"e to the dead with 4od5s permission.

(iv) 2e believe that he healed those born blind, and the lepers with
4od5s permission.
II) Con(#t of Go) in C$ristianity'
1. Jesus Christ (pbuh) never claimed Divinity
One may ask, if both Muslims and Christians love and respect Jesus (pbuh), where exactly is the
parting of ways !he ma"or di#erence between $slam and Christianity is the Christians%
insistence on the supposed divinity of Christ (pbuh)& ' study of the Christian scriptures reveals
that Jesus (pbuh) never claimed divinity& $n fact there is not a single une(uivocal statement in
the entire )ible where Jesus (pbuh) himself says, *$ am +od* or where he says, *worship me*& $n
fact the )ible contains statements attributed to Jesus (pbuh) in which he preached (uite the
contrary& !he following statements in the )ible are attributed to Jesus Christ (pbuh),
(i) 61y 7ather is greater than /.6
8The !ible, John 1-#29:
(ii) 61y 7ather is greater than all.6
8The !ible, John 1;#2.:
(iii) 6</ cast out devils by the Spirit o" 4od<.6
8The !ible, 1athew 12#29:
(iv) 6</ with the "inger o" 4od cast out devils<.6
8The !ible, =u(e 11#2;:
(v) 6/ can o" mine own sel" do nothing# as / hear, / >udge# and my >udgement is >ust? because / see( not my own
will, but the will o" the 7ather which hath sent me.6
8The !ible, John @#';:

2. The Mission of Jesus Christ (pbuh) to ulfill the !a"
Jesus (pbuh) never claimed divinity for himself& -e clearly announced the nature of his mission&
Jesus (pbuh) was sent by +od to con.rm the previous Judaic law& !his is clearly evident in the
following statements attributed to Jesus (pbuh) in the +ospel of Mathew,
*!hink not that $ am come to destroy the law, or the /rophets, $ am not come to destroy, but to
ful.l& 0or verily $ say unto you, !ill heaven and earth pass, one "ot or one tittle shall in no wise
pass from the law, till all be ful.lled&
*1hosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he
shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven2 but whosoever shall do and teach them, the
same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven&*
*0or $ say unto you, !hat except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the
scribes and /harisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven&*
3!he )ible, Mathew 4,56789:
#. $od %ent Jesus& (pbuh)

The !ible mentions the prophetic nature o" Jesus (pbuh) mission in the "ollowing verses#

(i)6< and the word which ye hear is not mine, but the 7ather5s which sent me.6
8The !ible, John 1-#2-:

(ii)63nd this is li"e eternal, that they might (now thee the only true 4od, and Jesus Christ, whom thou has
sent.6
8The !ible, John 1&#':

'. Jesus (efuted even the (emotest %u))estion of his Divinity

Consider the "ollowing incident mentioned in the !ible#
63nd behold, one came and said unto him, A4ood 1aster, what good thing shall / do, that / may have eternal
li"eB5
3nd he said unto him, A2hy callest thou me goodB There is none good but one, that is, 4od# but i" thou wilt
enter into li"e, (eep the commandments.5 6
8The !ible, 1athew 1.#1,01&:
Jesus (pbuh) did not say that to have the eternal life of paradise, man should believe in him as
'lmighty +od or worship him as +od, or believe that Jesus (pbuh) would die for his sins& On the
contrary he said that the path to salvation was through keeping the commandments& $t is indeed
striking to note the di#erence between the words of Jesus Christ (pbuh) and the Christian dogma
of salvation through the sacri.ce of Jesus (pbuh)&
*. Jesus (pbuh) of +a,areth a Man -pproved of $od
The "ollowing statement "rom the !ible supports the /slamic belie" that Jesus (pbuh) was a prophet o" 4od.
*;e men of $srael, hear these words2 Jesus of <a=areth, a man approved of +od among you by
miracles and wonders and signs, which +od did by him in the midst of you, as ye yourselves also
know&*
8The !ible, 3cts 2#22:

.. The irst Commandment is that $od is /ne
!he )ible does not support the Christian belief in trinity at all& One of the scribes once asked
Jesus (pbuh) as to which was the .rst commandment of all, to which Jesus (pbuh) merely
repeated what Moses (pbuh) had said earlier,
6Shama /sraelu 3donai /la ayno 3donai /(had.6
This is a ebrew Cuotation, which means#
6ear, $ /srael? The =ord our 4od is one =ord.6
8The !ible, 1ar( 12#2.:
$t is striking that the basic teachings of the Church such as !rinity and vicarious atonement .nd
no mention in the )ible& $n fact, various verses of the )ible point to Jesus% (pbuh) actual mission,
which was to ful.ll the law revealed to /rophet Moses (pbuh)& $ndeed Jesus (pbuh) re"ected any
suggestions that attributed divinity to him, and explained his miracles as the power of the One
!rue +od&
Jesus (pbuh) thus reiterated the message o" monotheism that was given by all earlier prophets o" 3lmighty 4od.
%$TD# 3ll Cuotations o" the !ible are ta(en "rom the *ing James +ersion.
III) Con(#t of Go) in Tsta&nt'

2. 0nity of $od in the 1oo2 of 3saiah

The "ollowing verses are "rom the !oo( o" /saiah#
