Center (MRCI)
Contribute towards the social and economic development through infotainment about marine life
along with employment generation and tourism development.
Objectives
Undertake education, research and conservation activities concerning marine life and ecosystems
through the institution.
Provide facilities for breeding and preservation of endangered marine species.
Create infotainment avenues to spread knowledge and information regarding marine life among
potential target groups.
Ensure self-sustenance of the center for continued operations and maintenance.
Issues and Causes
There is a lack of awareness and knowledge about the richness of marine life in Gujarat. It is
therefore important to impart this information and knowledge to potential target audiences using
innovative approaches. One such approach the creation of a marine research, conservation and
information centre, which can serve as a research, conservation and education facility as well as an
infotainment channel. With the growing number of threats to marine life, it is important to preserve
and breed unique and endangered species. This centre can also be equipped with such infrastructure
so as to enable preservation and breeding of threatened marine species.
Intangible Benefits:
Promotion of applied research, education and awareness, with respect to marine biodiversity
conservation and management including ecological literacy
Preservation & breeding of endangered or threatened species
