Part Name Picture Description Purpose

Motherboard

Main circuit board of the
computer, it is a rectangle
and the biggest piece, and
it is multicolored.
All computer parts are
connected to it and it
makeseverything work
together.
CPU- Central
Processing
Unit

Also called a processor,
is located inside the
computer case on the
motherboard
Is a processor that
processes everything
from basic instructions to
complex function.
RAM-
Random-
Access
Memory

RAM is measured
in megabytes (MB) or
gigabytes (GB).
Whenever your computer
performs calculations, it
temporarily stores the
data in the RAM until it
is needed.
ROM- Read-
only Memory

Most personal
computers contain a
small amount of ROM
that
stores critical programs s
uch as the program
that boots the computer.
ROM is computer memor
y on which data has been
prerecorded. It retains its
contents even when
the computer is turned
off.
Video card

A piece of computer
hardware that's
rectangular in shape with
numerous contacts on the
bottom of the card and
one or more ports on the
side for connection to
video displays and other
devices.
The video card is
responsible for what you
see on the monitor and is
an expansion card that
allows the computer to
send graphical
information to a video
display device such as a
monitor, TV, or
projector.
Sound card

A sound card is

hardware with numerous
contacts on the bottom of
the card and multiple
ports on the side for
connection to audio
devices such as speakers.
The sound card is an
expansion card that
allows the computer to
send audio information to
an audio device like
speakers or a pair of
headphones.
HDD- Hard
Disk Drive

A hard drive is usually
the size of a paperback
book but much heavier.
The sides of the hard
drive have pre drilled,
threaded holes for easy
mounting in the 3.5 inch
drive bay in the
computer case.

The hard disk drive is the
main, and usually largest,
data storage
hardware device in a
computer.
The operating system,
software titles and most
other files are stored in the
hard disk drive.

Optical Drive

An optical drive is a
piece of computer
hardware about the size
of a thick soft cover
book. The front of the
drive has a small
Open/Close button that
ejects and retracts the
drive bay door.
Optical drives retrieve
and/or store data on optical
discs like CDs, DVDs, and
BDs (Blu-ray discs) which
hold much more
information than classic
portable media options like
the floppy disk.
NIC-
Network
Interface card

A computer circuit
board or card that is
installed in a computer
so that it can be
connected to a network.
this is the card that
physically makes the
connection between the
computer and the network
cable.
Expansion
slots

An expansion slot
usually refers to any of
the slots on
a motherboard that take
PCIe, PCI, AGP, ISA,
or other format
expansion cards.
Nearly all personal
computers except portables
contain expansion slots for
adding more memory,
graphics capabilities, and
support for special devices.
Ports &
Buttons

A well-defined area
within the interface that
is clicked to select a
command.
Ports: a place or input on
your computer that
information goes into and

plastic, but that's just the
sleeve. The disk inside is
made of a thin, flexible vinyl
material.
