NATURE OF COMMUNICATION

Communication is characterised by the following salient features:


1. Communication is essentially a two-way process, involving a sender and a receiver.
One person alone cannot communicate. There is no communication until the message
is received and understood by the receiver. It taes two to complete communication.
!. The message should be interpreted by the receiver in the same sense as intended by
the sender. The basic purpose of communication is to create mutual understanding.
Therefore, communication is complete only when the message is correctly understood
and the response to it becomes nown to the sender.
". The message must have substance. It should contain information or ideas which are
of interest to the receiver. It is meaningless to tal about boo to a person who cannot
read.
#. Communication is a pervasive function. It is used by managers at all levels of
organisation and in all areas of operations.
$. Communication is an on-going process. There must be continuous inter%change of
messages between people woring together in a group.
&. Communication does not mean mere oral or written messages. It includes
everything

The communication process is made up of four ey components. Those components
include encoding, medium of transmission, decoding, and feedbac. There are also two
other factors in the process, and those two factors are present in the form of the sender
and the receiver. The communication process begins with the sender and ends with the
receiver.
0ollowing are the parameters you need to be ept in mind while comparing technical
and non-technical writing.
Subject Treatment
In technical writing, feelings and thoughts of writer must NOT be included.
Scope of Document
In technical writing, writer must be aware of the scope of the document he is writing.
Needs Of Reader
1riter must understand the needs of reader he is writing document for. 0or e2ample,
1riter must tell the reader, this is our product, you need this product because....... and it
will be very much beneficial to you because of etc.
Organie Document
Technical document must be well organi3ed. It MUST have a proper opening, body and
conclusion.
Identification of Audience
I would say, it is the most important part of writing a technical document. 4ou must
identify the audience you are taling to.
Concise
