INTRODUCTION
Noise sources can include passenger vehicles, medium trucks, heavy trucks and buses. Each
of these vehicles produces noise. However, the source and magnitude of the noise can vary
greatly depending on vehicle type. For eample, while the noise from passenger vehicles occurs
mainly from the tire!roadway interface and is therefore located at ground level, noise from heavy
trucks is produced by a combination of noise from tires, engine, and ehaust, resulting in a noise
source that is approimately " feet above the ground.
#raffic noise trends to be a dominant noise source in our urban as well as rural environment.
#he level of highway traffic noise depends on three things$
#he volume of the traffic
#he speed of the traffic
#he number of trucks in the flow of the traffic.
%enerally, the loudness of traffic noise is increased by heavier traffic volumes, higher speeds,
and greater numbers of trucks.
OB"ECTIVE
#o measure the pattern of eisting noise levels.
#o perform simple statistical analysis on noise samples collected and interpret the results
obtained.

!ROCEDURE
1# Firstly, the proper and strategic location was selected at straight road before the ,unction .
2# #hen, the sound level of moving vehicle was recorded by using the sound level meter.
3# #he data was recorded in data sheet at -. seconds interval for duration of /. minutes.
DISCUSSION
#he eperiment was carried out to measure the pattern of eisting noise level and to
perform the statistical analysis on noise source samples collected at the specific area and
interpret the result obtained. #raffic noise are problem that cannot be avoided because of the
increase in vehicle technology becomes more developed from time to time across the country.
#he level of highway traffic noise depends on three things which is the volume of the traffic, the
speed of the traffic and the number of the trucks in the flow of the traffic.
#he traffic noise test was conducted was conducted at the area between (itm and
secondary school main road. #he location also was conducted near the traffic light in front of
(itm gate. From the data the obtained, the highest fre0uency of traffic noise is from 1...!12.3
which is 24.45. #he data obviously show the road are 0uite crowded with the vehicles that are
passing the road. #he number of the truck such as lorry school busses are the main factor that
lead to give higher values of traffic noise. 6ccording to 7altrans8 #echnical Noise &upplement,
#raffic noise is a combination of the noises produced by vehicle engines, ehaust, and tires.
&ound may be thought of as mechanical energy of a vibrating ob,ect transmitted by pressure
waves through a medium to human (or animal) ears.
#he time of conducting the traffic noise test also are main element that effect the values
of traffic noise. 9n our test, we had conducted this eperiment from : pm ; 2 pm. #he result show
during the peak hour that is :pm to 4pm the number and volumes of the vehicles are very high
because of parents went to pick their children at school and student from (itm had finished their
class and on their way to back home and certain student are on their way to (itm. From the data
obtained its show that the lowest percentage fre0uency of traffic noise is from 3...! 32.3 which
is ../5. #his is because, the data are taken during the non!peak hour and the vehicles number
are decrease.
From the graph fre0uency of distribution curve we can determine the modal speed which
is 1-.". from the graph cumulative distribution curve we can get <-=, <=., <"=, and <3= which is
/:.=, 1..., 1/.=, and ":.=.
CONCLUSION
From the eperiment, we can conclude that Highway traffic noise is not constant. Noise
levels change with the number, type, and speed of the vehicles. >e can measure the pattern of
eisting noise level and to perform simple statistical analysis on noise samples collected and
interpret the result obtained.
#he data we can get from the sound level meter and the highest number of sound level is
between 1...! 12.3 that is 24.45. From the data we can conclude that area that we was study and
do the test are very crowded and higher volume number of vehicles. #he alternative way must be
provided because the road always had an accident and to reduce the values numbers of the traffic
noise. #he traffic noise must be reduce at this area because at this area have the residential house,
school and (itm that we know they are all want the suitable and comfortable environment.
For eample, trucks can be prohibited from certain streets and roads, or they can be
permitted to use certain streets and roads only during daylight hours. #raffic lights can be
changed to smooth out the flow of traffic and to eliminate the need for fre0uent stops and starts.
&peed limits can be reduced. 6 -. mile!per!hour reduction in speed is usually necessary for a
noticeable decrease in noise levels.
