Ten Top Universities for Medicine Worldwide

The list of world's ten top universities for medicine based on the QS World University Rankings
2011/ 2012 has been released, with Harvard Medical School taking the top spot, followed closely by
Cambridge's School of Clinical Medicine and University of Oxford.

1. Harvard University
Established in 1782, the Harvard Medical School is considered the best worldwide with its mission
of "creating nurture a diverse community of the best people committed to leadership in alleviating
human suffering caused by disease." The school scores a perfect 100 per cent for its academic,
employer and research reputation.
The Harvard Medical School is 17 points ahead of its closet rival

2. University of Cambridge
Cambridge's School of Clinical Medicine is regarded as the world's second best medical faculty.
Back to 1962, James Watson and Francis Crick proudly won a Nobel Prize in Medicine for their co-
discovery of the structure of DNA at Cambridge in 1953.

3. University of Oxford
Scoring 77.7 points, Oxford University is ranked No. 3. A medicine degree at the university costs
almost three times less than it would at Harvard

4. Stanford University
Stanford, the oldest continuously running medical school in the western United States, is ranked the
fourth, scoring 68.7 out of 100. It is famous for its very expensive fees. Students have to pay
27,000 per annum.

5. Johns Hopkins University
Established in 1893, John Hopkins School of Medicine has become the model on which all other US
medical schools are built

6. University of California
The medical faculty at University of California scores 63.3 points out of 100. Students spend no more
than 8,000 per year in fees

7. Massachusetts Institute of Technology
MIT's medical school is spotted the seventh with a score of 61. Students are charged up to 25,000
per year in fees

8. The University of Tokyo
Tokyo's Medical School gets eighth place in the world rankings, with its yearly fees of no more than
5,000 a year

9. Yale University
Yale University is notable for the Yale system of medical education, encouraging teaching in small
seminar, conference and tutorial settings, as well as promoting student self-evaluation, independent
thought and investigation

10. University of California
Set up no more than 50 years, the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA is claimed one of the
most prestigious medical schools in U.S. with its fees at 8,000 per year
