UNICEF Requires
Communication Assistant

Post Title: Communication Assistant
Contract Type: Temporary Appointment GS4, No. 90162
Duration of Job: 3 Months

Purpose of post:

Under the supervision of the Information and Communication Specialist NOC, the purpose of this post is to provide
technical assistance and coordination support in the planning, administration, implementation and monitoring and
evaluation of all activities related to information, communication, and communication for Change and Sport for Change.

Major duties:

Assists in developing and maintaining close collaboration with the mass media as well as other stakeholders that support
the implementation of UNICEFs communication activities and the achievement of UNICEFs advocacy objectives. Assists
in developing strategic alliances with media and private companies to implement conferences, events, and to ensure
coverage and bonus. Visits companies offering sponsorship packages for special events, managing the signing of
agreements.

Assists in development, production and dissemination of advocacy and communication materials and supports quality
control during the publications production (translations, reviews of layout and graphic design). Monitoring the production
of advocacy and communication materials (films, videos, audiovisual, publications, etc.) and monitor the quality aspects of
the production (quality control, translation, review of layouts and follow technical instructions set by the corporative brand
manual of UNICEF) to ensure the integrity of the institutional image according to the mission, vision and brand guidelines.

Provides day-to-day assistance in organizing media events, press visits and interviews. Organization of conferences,
preparation of draft press releases, and life stories for newsletter, website and social networks.

Assists in drafting press releases, feature stories, letters and translating documentation. Assists in producing content for the
UNICEF Nicaragua web-site and social networks.

Provides administrative/operations support to the communication section, prepares and maintains records and controls plans
for monitoring of projects implementation. Collects information, prepares draft periodic and ad-hoc reports on programme
activities. Scrutinize operational plans, exchanges of letters, facilitate contracting processes, travel requests and monitor
budget expenditure. Take appropriate follow up actions.

Provide logistical support to media/donor field visits as well as assistance in organizing public and press events and
interviews.

Qualifications and Specialized Knowledge/Experience Required:

University studies in communication, journalism, public relations, or equivalent professional work experience in
the field of communication.
At least two to three years of practical experience in communication, and/or print and broadcast media.
Excellent command of Spanish and active knowledge of English
