Set-Up
1. Shuffle all Baffle Gab word cards and return them to the
Baffle Box.
2. Choose a player to be the Banker and stack all the Baffle Bucks
next to that person.
3. Give each player a pencil and answer sheets.
Playing the Game
1. The person to the left of the Banker draws five cards from the
Baffle Box and places them with the word facing up in the center
of play.
2. Read the game words out loud once. All Gabbers will begin writing
their story, only after the timer is turned over, using the five Baffle
Gab words with as many of their own words as they want.
3. Get your creative story down on paper before the timer runs out,
and the banker calls, TIMES UP!
4. Each Gabber then reads their story aloud, starting with the Gabber
who drew the five cards at the beginning of the round. Note:
Challenges can be made as soon as a Gabber reads their story
(see, Challenging the Gabs). Reading continues clockwise.
5. Collect Baffle Bucks from the Banker according to the point
values on the words youve correctly used in your story. If youve
successfully used all five Baffle Gab words in one sentence you
can double your points!
6. After Baffle Bucks are collected, the round is over, and the next
Gabber (clockwise from the previous player who picked the five
cards) takes out five new cards and starts a new round.
Gabber Tips:
Suffixes ( -s, -ed, -ing, or ly) and prefixes (re-, de-, or un-) can be
paired up with words. For example if the word is passive you can
make it into passively and still get points.
You will not earn points, however, if you use the word as a proper noun.
For example, if you get the word awesome the following usage will
not earn points, Mr. Awesome is the strongest superhero to date.
Challenging the Gabs:
You can challenge any Gabbers word usage only after they have read
their story aloud. There can only be one challenge for each game word
in a Gabbers story.
You must be able to use the word youre challenging in a sentence, or
you must be able to define it, without looking at the definition on the
back of the card.
Based on the definition on the back of the card, the challenge is
determined to be either correct or incorrect.
If a Gabbers word is unsuccessfully challenged (the challenger
didnt define or use the word correctly), the Gabber will earn the
words points regardless if it was used correctly. The challenger then
subtracts the words point value, from their own score.
If a Gabbers story is successfully challenged, the challenger will
earn Baffle Bucks for each use of the word in the Gabbers story. The
Gabber will not earn any points for the correctly challenged word(s).
Earning Baffle Bucks:
Your sentences must be complete in order to earn points for word
usage. Imagination is encouraged, but your word usage must make
sense in order to collect Baffle Bucks.
Tally the points from your correct words and collect corresponding
Baffle Bucks from the Banker.
Double points are awarded for all five game words used correctly in a
single complete sentence.
No points are given for the following:
Any one-point game word used more than once.
Two-point game words used a second time if all five game words
werent used first.
When more than two game words are used in a row.
When words are used as proper nouns.
