Allauddin A Systems Development Life Cycle (SDLC) has to do with the birth and life, but it is
depended upon the analyst who is going to develop it. SDLC consist of one of the major elements that
provide an organizations information system. According to Satzinger etal, 2009, is contains different
types of software approaches that are derived from methodologies and utilized during the life cycle
development. An approach can be as more definitive method which comes with many with risks
factors that are relatively low, and this can be sometimes predictive. Hence, an adaptive approach can
be undefined on the other hand and has higher risk based on much higher technical analysis, because
the utilizers needs must be well-defined to comprehend, this adaptive approach is to provide
development and lifecycle management for an application or software. The numbers of phases are
varying by different industries and organizations. The five most common phases are to plan a project,
analyze the project, design the project, implement the project, support and maintain the project. .
The first phase is the most important stage of all, it basically about gathering ideas, making budget,
and making sure you do enough research to have minimum risks in the project and to reduce cost.
These are (5) five most common phases of SDLC: 1. Planning which sets goals for the project to
identify its scope of operation by using new system and ensuring that project tangible and feasible to
develop methodologies, time frame, resource allocation and allotment then follow by adequate budget
analysis to support the project. In phase one of the SDLC this would be the planning strategic
approach there are managers and stakeholders if any that will carry on evaluation to be effective for
the system as well as the objectives (Singleton, 2007) of the organization. There are general
guidelines as well as system budgeting that will have to be done as well as management and
stakeholders will develop a strategic future plan long term plan for the system. Generating of
information will be highly concentrated on that involve policy which includes short term and long term
financial goals (Singleton, 2007). 2. Analysis: is to comprehend the details surrounding the business
needs and process that is required for the new system to be effectuated. An SDLC, however,
analytical phase which givesIT professionals enough time to gather the relevant information as well
as facts and samples (Singleton, 2007) that will assist the project which is applied that of the end
users as well, then the project or system analysis will foster the process with the requirements that
will produce documents that will summarize the analysis of the project. With this step being done
there will be some type of documentation such as a report analysis that will illustrate the entitys
ability to be able to go through the developments stage. 3. Design: which provides a clear picture
about the system and those solutions in the system will base its analysis on the requirements defined
and decision will be reached during this project. SDLC is that of the conceptual design with this stage
it will need that of the stage two to move forward due to the requirements that was gathered and
analyzed. In phase three of the SDLC there should have been a DFD design done and documented the
details of the Unified Modeling Language (UML) as well as the entity relationships of the diagrams
(ERDs) the relational models as well as the normalized data diagrams (Singleton, 2007). 4.
Implementation: where IT professional want to see reliability I the project by testing, installing
information system and this required trained people to utilize this project efficiency and effectiveness.
This phase should also do an analysis of the alternatives to make sure that there is a detailed
feasibility study on the current IT infrastructure, legal feasibility, operational feasibility, as well as the
organizational feasibility study being done (Singleton, 2007). Another part to this phase is that of a
cost benefit analysis to make sure that this will associate how the assets will value the IT. 5.
Maintenance and Support: where life cycle is maintained through productivity and life
expectancy. Finally, it is a maintenance phase is as equal as important as the planning phase; here is
where any user issues are addressed and remedied. Several employees (project manager, system
analyst, developer), as well as others (customers, investors, and even suppliers), and their stakes are
involved in the SDLC process, with different roles as well. Lets look at the role as a project manager
for our understanding. Project Manager is central to the entire SDLC process, this individual is involved
closely, and is very much needed, and without management being heavily involved it is likely the
process will fall apart. Project managers ensure that there are no resource shortages, such as staff,
budgetary requirements, and other necessary elements that may hinder the project. Management
plays a pivotal role in the initiation process, once a determination is made; next decision to follow is
which approach to take to develop the actual system. There are lots of systems that are developed in
many ways which may vary in size, and may take a month for smaller projects and could extensive to
a year period, and sometimes go for a longer time for bigger scale system developments. System
Analysts who are accustomed to current trends can easily influence the design and analysis phases
during the system development life cycle. Analyst along with the project manager and other members
of the team are very organized, goal directed problem solvers. System or Business Analyst provides
various services during the SDLC process; this individual must have a keen awareness of current
market needs and a development of different systems goes through a unified process. In addition to
their familiarity; analysts also require specific tools that enable them from the onset until the project
is completed and nearly 100% error free. The specific tools, and techniques that system analyst use at
clearly at their disposal for the completion of the SDLC, one such tool that analyst use to create
system models is Microsoft Visio. To conclude, SDLC comes with complexity if the project failed. It can
be as rigid to re- design the program. Possibilities and alternatives were well defined and can work
during initial stage and every phase needs to work simultaneously, and will definitely face off to a
successful project as a manger.

As for me, this week was very interesting, insightful and challenging with detail information. I learnt
new terminologies as it relates to SDLC phase project managers can use to develop the system
either through waterfall or agile with the assistance of scrums. Knowing that SDLC has different
phases depending on what you are to develop or analyzing for a project and understanding task at
hand and risk factor as well. My entire classmates shared important information and discussion
questions answers were addressed with good responses from the instructor that helped to give us
an opened mind to the discussions, and how cost is associated with entire process. I understood the
five basic phases for SDLC and how they are interrelated. Many project need to work with the
planning and analysis phases to enable them have blue print to begin with.
