THE PAST TWO WEEKS WE
read ONE DUCK STUCK, TEN NINE
EIGHT, FIVE LITTLE MONKEYS, TEN
LITTLE MICE, A CAKE FOR BARNEY, HOW
MANY SNAILS?, TEN LITTLE PUPPIES,
THE DOORBELL RANG, ONE WHITE SAIL
and HOW TALL ARE YOU?

FYI
In todays Friday Folder, you will find a 100
Book Club form. As you read each night, record
the book title, date and initial the form. You can
read to your child or they can read to you! Old
favorites (books read more than once) are okay!
The goal will be 100 books, but please send in
your form when you get to 25, 50, and 75 too,
for your child to receive a special treat and
recognition for their progress. In case you ever
misplace your form, a copy is also located on our
classroom blog for you to print if needed.

More information will be coming home
regarding the K Assessment Night and K Airport
Field Trip (see the section Dates to Remember)
but I wanted to go ahead and give you those two
dates.

NEEDED
I need for everyone to sign and return the STAR
Early Literacy Parent Report that is in this
weeks Friday Folder. This test was given in
August during our weekly computer lab time.
The report gives some good information,
however it is important to also recognize the
limitations of the program (it is computer based
and young children using a mouse can cause
some reliability issues.) This assessment is new
to kindergarten teachers but if you have any
questions, I am happy to put you in contact with
a colleague who is knowledgeable of the tests
content, validity and reliability. If you would
like a copy of this report to keep, please let me
know.

DATES TO REMEMBER
October 3 September journals go home
13 PTO Meeting @ 6:00
15 K Assessment Night @ 6:00
20 Parent Conference Day
22 K Airport Field Trip (Green Hall)

PARENT READING
This weeks article, titled Student Representations
at the Center: Promoting Classroom Equity, is
about math and although the content is pulled from
a middle school classroom, it directly applies to
what kindergarten is doing at CWES. If you
signed up for the Paperless Classroom
Communication option, this reading can be found
on the right side of our blog under Suggested
Parent Readings.

ONE LAST THING
Dont forget to take a look at CWESs computer
lab website! (There is a link on the homepage
towards the top under Academics.) There are
resources available for parents and children to
use at home for free! Our computer lab teacher,
Mrs. Fidell, keeps the site up to date with what
the children have been using each week, as well
as other tools that can be used at home.

Have a wonderful weekend!!! -S. Jones
