CHAPTER 1

ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES OF ADVANCED READING TO THE COMPREHENSION

OF THE THREE LAVOISIER STUDENTS OF SAINT VINCENT SCHOOL

BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

Reading is a practice of a reader to be good in comprehension. Reading is very important in studying that can
enhance our comprehension, vocabulary, spelling, grammar, pronunciation of words, and can give us lot
knowledge. A student who reads in advance are gaining new knowledge about the things around us, widens their
imagination, helps us become a better speller and better communicator. Some readers found out that reading is
interesting and enjoyable but it depends on the content of the book.
As we are reading books, magazines, dictionaries and newspaper, our mind stimulates and we are gaining
knowledge, can help us a better speller and a better communicator. When we read, our mind has been receiving it
as an exercise. Like from the article (jackxsitepro.com/brain/Reading-is-Great-Exercise-for-the-Mind.html)
when you read, you are going to give your mind plenty of exercise. This is a great way to keep it sharp and to
reduce the risk of various mental health concerns. Reading helps you understand different ideas. It is a very fun to
read new, interesting stories or articles and find out what will be the conclusion of the story. It expands our
imaginations. Even while reading an interesting books/ stories, we are curious about what will going to happen,
we are imagining or predicting what will happen and we will just be surprised at the end, if what we imagined
while reading will be the end or not. Readers are very imaginative. Students who read in advanced will be easy to
her/ him to understand, and that makes him/ her good in reciting in class. They may also teach their classmates
about their lessons; he or she can be a model to others. But not only students are reading in advanced, of course
teachers do it to, they are the one who teach us how to do, so that we can easily cope up with the lessons. They
teach us how to read fluently. Like the article of (
www.iisan.org/iisan.webpage/advanced.reading/advanced.reading.booklet.pdf ) students learn how to use their
eyes and brains in more optimal way that can allow quicker reading and greater comprehension. And the article of
( Leon L. Bram and Norma H. Dickey; Funk Wagnalls New Encyclopedia V22; United States of America 1876;
pp 134,135 ) some schools are reading textbooks teach the child to recognize whole words and stress the meaning
of text. Students can also improve their vocabularies by paying conscious attention to any new words they may
encounter. We all know that advanced reading or simply reading has benefits; advantages. It can also help our
life because it can help us comprehend fluently. But along that many advantages of advanced reading, there are
also some disadvantages of it. Some students become lazy as they read because of very long and boring books ,
thats why theres nothing enters to their mind. They become sleepy when they read. When we read a very long
story, our eyes got tired, we also feel stress. They also become dizzy. from the article of (
wikianswers.com/Q/Disadvantages.of-reading-book)reading a book may make your eyes feel burry, and under
stress. Your body can get sick from just sitting down and not moving.
