The Filter Systems

SW150
100mm
Light, portable and perfect for street
photography and general picture-taking
on-the-go, Compact System Cameras
feature the exibility of manual controls and
interchangeable lenses, but it hasnt always
been possible to make the most of lters
with them until now.
Comprising a lightweight, precision-
engineered lter holder, the LEE Filters
Seven5 Micro Filter System is compatible
with LEEs 75x90mm lter range which
includes a polariser, neutral density lters
and now the Big Stopper.
Simply select the correct adaptor ring for
your lens thread, screw it onto the lens,
snap on the lter holder and drop in the
appropriate lter. In just a few moments,
youre ready to shoot. You can even combine
lters by clipping the polariser onto the front
of the lter holder, then slotting in an ND
grad which can be rotated independently,
leaving the position of the ND unaffected.
Adaptor rings are available for the following
lens-thread sizes:
37mm, 37.5mm, 39mm, 40mm, 40.5mm,
43mm, 46mm, 49mm, 52mm, 55mm, 58mm,
60mm, 62mm, 67mm and 72mm.
Also available for the system is a new
lightweight clip-on lens hood to help control
the effects of are on the lens.
Designed for use with Compact System Cameras, the
Seven5 lter system hands the photographer control of their
images when it really matters at the moment of capture.
The Starter Kit contains one lter holder and one
0.6ND hard grad. The adaptor ring needs to be
purchased separately.
The lter range includes polariser, neutral density
lters and the Big Stopper.
Lightweight clip-on lens hood to help control the
effects of are on the lens.
Think lters are the sole preserve of the
landscape photographer? Think again.
They are just as relevant to a gritty urban
scene as they are to a beautiful seascape.
A quick turn of a polariser and your blue sky
takes on an appealing intensity. Use an ND
grad to reduce contrast between sky and
foreground. Or, if you shoot in black and
white, slip in a yellow, orange or red lter to
boost contrast.
You can even use the Big Stopper to extend
your exposure by ten stops (ensure the
camera is braced on a stable surface or
mini tripod). What does this mean for the
photographer? Less time in front of the
computer more time making pictures.
Take control of your photographs with the
Seven5 Micro Filter System.

100mm
the
lter system
Need a lter set-up that is suitable for every
photographic eventuality, be that using a
neutral-density grad to reduce the contrast
across a scene or a polariser to intensify the
blue in the sky? Then the 100mm Filter System
is where you begin. A one-size-ts-all system,
it is compatible with DSLRs, as well as
medium-format and large-format cameras.
How to get started
You need only three things to get started: the
adaptor ring; the lter holder; and the lters.
The adaptor ring comes in a range of thread
sizes from 49mm to 105mm and simply
screws to the front of your cameras lens.
The lter holder comes assembled with two
slots, but can be adapted to take up to four
slot-in lters. Once assembled, the lter holder
simply snaps onto the adaptor ring, and you
are ready to drop in your chosen lters.
The lters are available in a vast range of
types and colours everything from neutral
density to polariser to the classic yellow,
orange and red lters so loved by the
black-and-white photographer.
The most popular lters in the LEE Filters
100mm range are manufactured from a
lightweight, optically superior polymeric
material. Each lter is handmade by our
team of skilled technicians in the LEE Filters
UK factory. These resin lters are generally
available as two types: graduated (half
colour, half clear) and standard (all colour).
Because the lters slide up and down within the
holder, the photographer is able to control the
precise placement of the point of graduation
be that at the top, middle or bottom of the
frame. In addition, the lter holder can be
rotated independently. This is invaluable when
using neutral density grads with a composition
in which the horizon is at an angle.
Glass lters
Some photographers prefer to use glass
lters, and LEE Filters recognises this with
its ProGlass ND range. These standard
lters which are available in 0.6 and 0.9
strengths are manufactured from extremely
high-quality glass and nished with an
evaporated metal coating to ensure even
absorption of light. When using the ProGlass
ND lter, only the exposure alters, while
the colour balance of the image remains
unaffected.
Also manufactured from glass are the
polarising lter and Big Stopper. The polariser
requires an accessory ring, which ts to
the front of the lter holder. The polariser
attaches to this accessory ring and can be
rotated independently of any other lters that
are being used.
The Big Stopper was launched in response
to the vogue for ultra-long exposures.
This lter increases the length of exposure
by approximately ten stops. As an example,
if your meter reading suggests an exposure
of 1/4sec at f/8, tting the Big Stopper
increases that exposure to 256 seconds
just under four and a half minutes.
Digital SLR Starter Kit
For many photographers, the Digital
SLR Starter Kit is the ideal place to
get established with the LEE Filters
system. It comprises an assembled
holder for two lters, a 0.6ND hard
grad, a ProGlass 0.6ND standard, a
cleaning cloth and a pouch. All you
need to do is choose the adaptor ring
sizes that are right for your lenses and
you are ready to shoot.

SW150
How to attach the system
The bulbous front element of the 14-24mm
lens protrudes in such a way as to make
conventional lter use impossible. The LEE
SW150 system comprises a front ring, a
compression ring and a locking ring which,
when tted, form a collar which remains on
the lens at all times. It is then simply a case of
locking the lter holder to the collar which,
it should be pointed out, can still rotate once
in situ and selecting the lter of your choice.
The rings are tted when the lens is detached
from the camera body, as they need to be
introduced from the rear of the lens as well
as the front. Once tted, the lens is attached
to the camera and the lters used as normal.
Because of the size of the front element of
the 14-24mm lens, the lters for the SW150
system are larger than those in the standard
range: graduated lters are 150x170mm, while
all other lters for this system are 150x150mm.
In use
The SW150 Filter System, which is delivered
assembled with one slot, has been
particularly welcomed by photographers
who use neutral density grad lters in their
photography, allowing them to achieve the
correct exposure in-camera, without the
need for time-consuming postproduction.
An extra set of guides is supplied with the
holder for those who wish to use two lters
with the system, although it should be
pointed out that there is the possibility of
vignetting at the widest end of the lens when
more than one lter is used.
It is also possible to purchase the SW150
System Adaptor, which allows the SW150
to be attached to any LEE adaptor ring from
the 100mm system, and thus permitting use
of the SW150 on many other types of lens.
The Nikon 14-24mm f/2.8 G
AF-S ED lens is hugely popular
particularly with landscape
photographers but due to
its construction it has been
impossible to t a regular lter
holder to it.
Until now.
The LEE SW150 system allows you to use a
range of slot-in lters (with the exception of
polarising lters and the Big Stopper) on the
14-24mm lens.
Starter Kit
The holder for the SW150 Filter
System is sold as a Starter Kit,
which comprises the SW150 lter
holder, the adaptor collar for the
lens, one 0.6ND (two-stop) hard
graduated lter (150x170mm) and
a Neoprene lens cap to offer some
protection to the lens when the
holder is not attached.
