Course Structure

The following criteria depicts the requirements for a Yoga School Registered to Yoga
Alliance. Topics that are to be included as a part of the registered teacher training
should be in relevance to the following five educational categories. Minimum number of
hours of study must be provided on each category by every registered school. They
should also provide few additional hours of study in relevance to these categories,
which may be chosen at the schools own discretion.
Here is our course structure which clearly portrays what a successful student should
know before joining our course and will be able to learn through our course. We
incorporate the following training hours in the following educational categories as a part
our teacher training courses
1. Training, Practice and Techniques
Topics under this category may include, but might not be limited to:
asanas, chanting, mantra, pranayamas, kriyas, meditation and other classic yoga techniques.
These hours shall be a blend of:
an analytical training providing a deep insight into how to practice and teach the techniques
practice of the techniques themselves with the careful guidance of experienced faculty
Both the segments shall receive significant focus.
2. Teaching Techniques
Topics under this category may include, but might not be limited to:
Communication skills like group etiquette, art of prioritizing and establishing the boundaries
and time management
How to target the specific requirements of individuals and special groups, to the extent possible
in a team
Principles of observation, demonstration, assistance and correction
Various styles of yoga teaching
Characteristics of a yoga teacher
The learning process of a yoga aspirant
Business aspects of yoga teaching
The Teaching Techniques category covers an extensive overview and analysis of teaching
methodologies, rather than how to teach or practice specific techniques.
3. Physiology and Anatomy
Topics under this category may include, but might not be limited to:
This category shall include human physiology (body systems, organs, etc.) and physical anatomy
and might also include energy analysis and its physiology (like chakras, nadis, etc.). Includes the
study of both physiology and anatomy along with their applications to yoga practice (benefits,
contradictions, healthy movement patterns, etc.).
4. Philosophy, Ethics and Lifestyle of Yoga for Yoga Teachers
Topics under this category may include, but might not be limited to:
The study of philosophies and scriptures of yoga, like the Yoga Sutras, Hatha Yoga Pradipika
etc
Lifestyle of Yoga, observing the principles of non-violence (ahimsa) as well as following the
concepts of karma and dharma
Ethical code for yoga teachers, such as teacher and student relations and society
Realizing the value of teaching yoga as a service and serving others
5. Practicum
Topics under this category may include, but might not be limited to:
Practice yoga teaching
Giving and accepting feedback
Paying attention to others yoga teaching techniques
Assisting students when your peer is handling the session
The specifications outlined above assure that all the yoga trainees of Himalayan Yoga Bliss
center acquire instructions and training under the aforementioned five educational categories for
the stipulated number of hours. The remaining contact hours and elective hours shall be allotted
among the same five educational categories, however the number of hours may be allocated at
the discretion of the type of course.
