From the
The Honors College has made important changes to the require-
ments for General Honors, and I wanted to be sure you're aware of
them. Note that these changes apply only to students who entered
Honors in August 2014 (and later); other students can choose either
the new requirements or the old ones, whichever works best.
In the past, students were required to complete six Honors courses
(with some specific rules requiring breadth across different subject
areas). Effective August 2014, students will be required to com-
plete 18 hours of Honors courses, (with similar rules on breadth).
The exact requirements can be found at http://www.clemson.edu/
cuhonors/studenthandbook/generalprogram.html.
The goal in implementing these new rules is to give Honors students
more flexibility in choosing their Honors courses. For example, you
can now use a series of 1- or 2-hour Honors courses--including the 1
-hour freshman engineering courses--to qualify for general Honors.
We hope to add new 1- and 2-hour courses over the next few years
as student interest and resources permit.
Again, students who entered Honors before August 2014 are grand-
fathered (or grandmothered) into the old requirements, unless they
choose to follow the new rules. Please let us know if you have any
questions about the new requirements and how they might (or
might not) apply to you.
