FROM THE PASTOR
Dear parishioners,

It is with a heavy heart that we of-
fer our prayers for Bishop Cirilo in
the midst of his passing. Please
keep his family and also our diocese
altogether in prayer. There are
many people working hard at the
Diocesan Offices during this time to keep things
running as smoothly as possible and our prayerful
support is needed.

Almost a year ago, we had scheduled a Mass of In-
stallation for me as the pastor of Santa Sophia in
late October of 2013. On October 8th in 2013, the
arson attack happened. At the time, Bishop Cirilo
wanted to wait until we were back in the church
before installing me as pastor. Once back in the
church, as you all know, Bishop suffered his stroke
and this meant a delay on the installation Mass.

Before Bishop Cirilo passed, I knew it would be a
long time, if we even had a chance, to have him do
the installation Mass. Two weeks ago I scheduled
an installation Mass with Bishop Brom for Octo-
ber 8th of this year.

All parishioners are invited to attend the Mass at
6:30 pm and a reception will follow. October 8th is
the one year anniversary of the arson fire also, so it
will be nice to allow Gods grace to transform this
memory for us into a celebration.

An installation Mass is where I am officially in-
stalled to be the pastor, and I will also take what is
called the Oath of Fidelity to the church. More
information to follow about this celebration.

Have a blessed week!

A MESSAGE OF THANKS FROM
FATHER BOSCO.

I would like to express my sincere thanks to the
Santa Sophia Parish Community for the warm hos-
pitality that was bestowed to the German Kolping
Youth. A special thank you to the host families and
the young adults for their friendship that was
shared with the German youth.

The German Kolping youth had a wonder experi-
ence in our parish, at Father Joes Village and out
and about in San Diego. They were very grateful
for the opportunity to share in the cultural ex-
change and social justice program. We look for-
ward to the year ahead when we will be hosting a
new group of exchange students.

God Bless you all.

Baptism at Santa Sophia Parish this weekend.

Saint of the Week ~ St. Ambrose Barlow
St. Ambrose lived from 1585 to 1641. His is
considered part of the Forty Martyrs of England
and Wales. As a priest under Sir Thomas
Tyldesley, he secretly offered daily masses and
recited office and rosary for the poor Catholics that were
unable to attend mass. He was so kind and giving to the
poor Catholics, that he was willing to help others at the cost
of his own life. He truly embodied the message of Jesus, to
always be caring and helpful, no matter who the person is.
