Crochet Pattern







Teru Teru Bozu is a little Japanese handmade doll that farmers hung outside the window by a string. This 'amulet'
is commonly used in modern days in praying for good weather - usually to prevent rains - especially if it is a special
and important occasion on the following day.
The larg and little Teru Teru Bozu are approximately 17cm (6.7") and 9cm (3.5) tall respectively.

The size of the finished doll varies with the yarn and tension. This pattern is to be worked in rounds unless stated,
mark the 1
st
/last stitch of each round with a stitch marker or small safety pin. To avoid confusion, abbreviation is
provided here.

Materials required
Yarns: Acrylic yarn (classic and deluxe) 18 WPI (also known as fingering/laceweight yarn)
Colors: Large Teru Teru Bozu
white
Small Teru Teru Bozu
cream; red
Replace the colors as you wish; kits offered in our shop may be packed differently from the pattern.
Crochet hook(s): 1.75mm
Needle: Yarn needle, preferably long doll needle
Fill: Polyfill
Eyes: 12mm black eyes; 9mm black eyes 1 pair each
Smile: Embroidery floss pink
Others: Ribbon/hemp rope

Abbreviations:
sc - single crochet
inc - increase crochet (2 sc/dc in same st)
dec - decrease crochet (1 sc/dc over 2 sts)

WPI (Wrap Per Inch)

To measure the WPI of the yarn, wrap the yarn over a ruler, till it reaches 1 inch,
count the number of wraps, and you will obtain the WPI.

Steps - Recommended sequence
1. Insert eyes as recommended
2. Embroider smile
3. Tie ribbon on doll
4. Attach hemp rope/ribbon to loop
