Card AvaiIabIe.
The EX300 MiniStation is a complete FM Exciter/Transmitter. You can
choose the frequency through the buttons located on the equipment front
panel. Frequencies between 87,5 to 108,1MHz can be set by the user in
100kHz steps. The equipment is totally BROADBAND, this means, the RF
power level stays the same independently of operation frequency.
The excellent audio quality is due to its hi-quality FM VCO, modulating
through eight varicap diodes.
The EX300 has variable power output from 5Wto 300W, this is important if
you drive an external power amplifier (like High-power PowerCell combined
series), this way, if your amplifier need about 250Wto input this FM exciter
is the most indicated.
Suitable for applications like FM exciter, the EX300 can also be used as
stand alone transmitter.
The EX300 MiniStation has a stereo generator built-in, only connecting the
audio cable from the mixer the FM station is on the air. Also, you can
configurate if your transmittion is in MONO or STEREO mode - externally -
just pressing the buttons on the front panel, and it's done.
All MiniStation series have an optional card called "Single Band Audio
Processor - APCard-1 you can turn your MiniStation into even more
powerful version. This card processes the audio from the mixer in a
limited/compressed audio level, avoiding distortions on the audio
modulation.
Also, if you have an external audio processor, the EX300 MiniStation has an
option in its panel: you can configurate the main audio input, if it is stereo
generated internally to EX300 or externally, from the processor. To do this,
you just need to press the buttons UP/DOWNand SELECT.
RDS encoders may be connected in the EX300 MiniStation, there are 2
inputs for these encoders: SCAinput and 19KHz tone sync output.
The EX300 is available in American, European and also Japanese bands
only pressing the overset of the equipment.
On the LCD display, parameters like operation frequency, FWD and
Reverse power, Composite audio level, Left and Right audio level, selection
of internal or external MPX, Stereo or Mono operating and others are
shown. We present an easy to use interface in this exciter, easy to configure
and operate.
The AC input is 220V (110V also available) "Step-Down switched mode
power supply, faciliting the main connections around the world, 47 to 63Hz.

EX300 MiniStation - Stereo/Mono/MPX/SCA/RDStransmitter/exciter
The EX300 MiniStation is a high fidelity broadband FM transmitter with a power output of 320 Watts. t is capable of
transmitting the program signal and two multiplex subcarriers with little degradation of signal quality over one
transmitter/exciter. The linearity and FM noise characteristics of the direct FM oscillator are exceptional. The
transmitter is modular in construction and operation, and the system description given below follows the signal flow
through the varios modules and its sections.
The system assembly drawings are located in Section 'Schematics" along with the module schematics and
system schematics are at the end of this manual.
Fm Synthesizer
The baseband signal from the audio inputs modulates the frequency modulated oscillator (FMOSC) in the VCO Block.
The FMOSC consists of a 80-110MHz ultralinear, very low noise VCO which is phase locked to a crystal-controlled
reference oscillator. The phase lock loop contains the frequency programming mode which allowthe synthesizer to be
changed in frequency steps of 100kHz (standard) 50kHz or 200kHz in some models. The RF signal will deviate +-
75kHz (composite) or +-50kHz (mono) from the carrier. The output power of the VCO is approximatelly 5 milliwatt.
RF 100mWampIifier
n to the VCO block, there is a smaller RF amplifier section, that amplifiers 5mWfrom the VCO output to 100mWthrough
of 2 RF transistors (MMBF-J310 and BFG520) .
RF 700mWampIifier
The RF amplifier module consists of a one-stage BPOLARlownoise transistor design, which amplifies the input signal
(100mWtyp.) to the nominal 700mWdriver output. The output is filtered to attenuate all higher order harmonics to a
level of at least -60dBc.
RF 8Wdriver ampIifier
The RF signal provenient from the 700mW stage is now amplified by a STATE-OF-THE-ART MOSFET from
MTSUBSH, called RD06HVF1 - This device is developed to assist a broadband "no tune circuit. The frequency
operation in the equipment can be changed into 88-108MHz keeping the same output RF power. The RD06HVF1
possesses a high gain, high efficiency and ultra linearity for this device.
RF 320WfinaI ampIifier
The 350Wpallet amplifier of EX300 MiniStation is matched by impedance. The 5Wfrom RD06HVF1 is now amplified
by BLF278 Philips device. The transistor has almost 20dB gain in the FM band. Circuits matched by impedance have
"no tune operation, this means the RF power level stays same independly of frequency operation. The RF level ajust
circuitry operates through this section. When the equipment is set to 5Wthere is only about 7V on MOSFET, while the
equipment set to the maximum power will be about 42V. The final stage is totally protected against fails by the
equipment microcontroller: voltage, current, temperature and high VSWR level are monitored and if any dangerous
level is detected the processor will shut-down the RF stage, protecting the RF transistor.
RF Low Pass FiIter

The RF lowpass filter is located at the output of the BLF278 pallet and it is made with 5 cells filtering the RF signal. The
harmonics are attenued on -80dBc (typ. 85dBc). The RF output is sampled via a dual directional coupler with detectors
that provide an indication of the forward and reflected power of the RF amplifier.
Transmitter ControI
The Transmitter Control section of the audio and power supply board has several functions. One of these is to sense the
PLL LOCK detect signal from the RF module. f this module goes out of lock, then the radiate control logic circuit
provides a signal to the power supply to turn off the +Vcontrol supply to the RF power module, causing the transmitter to
stop radiating. Also, this section detects if the VSWRlevel is more than permised, so the transmitter control turn off the
DClevel to the RF power module. All of these parameters can be viewthrough the LCDDisplay on the front panel.
Metering and Status
The Metering and Status circuitry on the Audio, Power Supply, Temperature and RF sections conditions the various
system parameter samples for accurate meter indications, and drives the status LEDs on the front panel.

Start Guide for use
Power SuppIy (AC)
The toroidal transformer converts the AC voltage (220V standard or 110V special version) into two voltages level: 20V
and 58V, that will be regulated and filtered voltages: +28Vand +70V.
n the main PC board of the EX300 MiniStation, exist others DC regulators that supplies the voltages required for the
operation of the transmitter. The outputs are: +5V(main processor and displays) +12,5Vto the fans and +10Vto the RF
drivers transistors.
DCto DCPower Converter - Step-down Switched ReguIator
To supply the RF output stage and adjust its level, a Step-down regulator was developed. The DC voltage into the
output of this regulator is adjusted through the Multi-turn trimmer, located in the rear panel of the EX300. This voltage
can variate from 4V up to 44,0VDC that supplies the BLF278 RF transistor. This way, if the user need to adjust the RF
level, he is adjusting the DC level in the RF MOSFET (all RF levels between 5 and 320W can be adjusted, like for
example 155W).
AP01 Audio Processor Card - Hi-Fi compressor/Iimiter
The MiniStation Series has an excellent compressor/limiter Card optional, which can be adquired installed or not in the
transmitter. This compressor is a single audio processor widel-band, that processes all frequencies of the audio signal,
always maintaining high the dynamics of the transmission. This processor can be enabled or disabled by the main
processor, just pressing the buttons on the front panel. The audio processed is limited and it won't produce over-
modulation in the transmitter, in addition the sound quality will be exceptional.
Stereo Generator Section
The Stereo Generator Sectiond consists in a switched stereo generator of excellent audio separation. Also, the user
can choose if the transmittion will be in stereo or mono. The parameters of this section can be viewed on the LCD, when
the equipment is showing the frequency of operation (for example, 106, 6MHz "St).
15kHz Low-pass FiIter Section
The 15kHz filter section is indicated for who needs to transmit programming that the audio frequency does't pass of
15kHz. t was most important to place this section when the stereo generator is enabled, because the high frequencies
is not important to transmit in this case.

This bargraph is a composite audio meter, the measure corresponds to the carrier deviation.
When each led is turned on, it wants to say that 10kHz of the carrier is deviated. This way, all leds
turned on, 110kHz of carrier is deviated. The EX300 has an audio processor CARD optional,
composed by a high quality limiter and compressor, so the limit of 75-90% will be never
surpassed. When the equipment is set to MPXoperation, the user must to observe these limits.
Note that is often recommended the user modules up to 75%, above this interferences could be
happen in another channels or radio stations.

COMPOSITEAUDIO METER: IF THEAUDIO PROCESSORCARDISNOT INSTALLED:
f the audio processor CARD is not installed, the transmitter will module the carrier acording the
audio level that is incoming. This way, if this audio has not a controlled level from a
compressor/limiter, it is possible that will be overmodulation.
The EX300 supports the deviation of 100kHz without any kind of distortion. "MAX in the LCD
corresponds to 110% of modulation, 110kHz of deviation. n some case, is possible to transmit
110% of modulation, but note that in others channels must not have any other users. The "CLP

REMARK: NEVER let the transmitter modules more than "MAX in any case, overmodulation
causes interferences in other radiostations and decrease the covering area of your FM station.

JUMPERSINTERNALCONFIGURATIONSSECTION
1) INTRODUCTION
This chapter provides a guide to the various jumpers by a brief description of the main
modes of operation. The advanced setup procedure pages that follow provide a little more
information on each mode as well as providing some information on setting the EX300 up
accurately if the user has access to some test equipment.

causes
Make sure the modification is really necessary before open the equipment.
2) QUICKGUIDETO THEJUMPERS
There are altogether two jumpers sections on the EX300 which can be set - at the time of
installation - to establish the way the board operates.
The PC board leaves the factory with default settings which should be suitable for most
locations and requirements, Nevertheless, it is worth familiarizing the user with all the
options available, and checking that the settings are appropriate, as part of the installation
process.
The next page shows when is located each jumper, and the equivallent function of each one.
For a quick understandig, the following illustration shows what is a connected jumper
(position "ON) and a disconnected jumper (position " OFF).
he user that this section will only be able to be understood by qualified personnel and
already has experience in this equipment. The internal
can be modified in case the user understands that is really necessary modification, once the
equipments by Sinteck Next present pre-defined configurations that will provide to the user
the best condition in the transmission or reception of equipments
We also inform that the configuration of these jumpers done erroneously it can undesirable

JUMPER1&2: PRE-EMPHASIS50SOR75S
The default position is 75s (50s Europe)
What is pre-emphasis?
Pre-emphasis is the treble boost that must be applied to all FM broadcasts to compensate
for the treble cut (de-emphasis) present in every receiver. The aim of his process is to
reduce noise in the broadcast path without degrading the audio.
The precise nature of the treble boost is defined by a time-constant in microseconds, which
describes the resistor/capacitor network that will produce the appropriate 6dB per octave
treble boost curve.

There are two different standards in use worldwide.
n Europe and Africa, the standard is normally 50s. This represents a lift of about 3dB at
3kHz, and 10dBat 10kHz. n the Americas, and in Japan, more boost is in use with a network
of 75s, about 3dBup at 2kHz.
The jumper may either link the 75s pins, the 50s pins, or not link any pins, but be fixed to
just one of them for safekeeping, producing no pre-emphasis - 0s.
The effects of pre-emphasis
The absence of any pre-emphasis will result in a broadcast sounding noticeably lacking in
treble. Applying 75s pre-emphasis will correct the situation in American receivers (50s
European receivers). f you apply 75s pre-emphasis when 50s is called for, the received
sound will have some 3dB shelved treble boost above 3kHz. This is undesirable.
Conversely, if you only apply 50s where 75s is required, there will be 3dB treble loss,
which is also undesirable. You should not have to change the pre-emphasis setting 50s or
75s or back unless you are relocating the installation abroad where the standar is different.
However, whenever pre-emphasis is deliberately applied to your audio at some point before
it enters the XLR socket on the back of the board, by an external processor for example,
then you must set the pre-emphasis to "0 or without any jumper, because pre-emphasis
must only be applied once. Double pre-emphasis must be avoided because it will make a
signal sound far too bright and toppy.
These jumpers doesnt affect the operation of the board when external MPXis used.

CHANGING FUSES
The EX300 has 3 fuses: 1 externally and 2 internally.
The fuse located externally would be damaged if the mains voltage is more than 265V. The
gas discharger and varistor bank will short-circuit the AC and this fuse will be open. t is
extremelly important to keep the same current specified in for this section, the fuse MUST
BE10A, this is the protection of your transmitter.
Never change this fuse for others of more current.
The following illustration shows where is located this fuse:
EC Socket
The first fuse located internally is the fuse responsible for protect the Step-down converter. f
there is a short-circuit in this section, like for example a damage in any MOSFET regulator,
this fuse will open, protecting the Step-down board. The current of this fuse is 10A, never
may be replaced for fuse of more current.
