Greasers: A
RowdyRumble
By:MichelleEvangelista

Tulsa,Oklahoma The winter of

January 23rd,1965, a chilly
night,a brawl between the
Greasers and the Socs, A gang
of 20 delinquent juveniles vs. 22
high class, wealthy teens fighting
for peace between them.
Greasers are those who are the
low class who live on the poor,
East side of town and are known
for for their long greased hair and
wear leather or denim jackets
withjeans.

The Greasers are sitting on a

bench with their signature
greased hair and leather or
denim jackets. The Greasers

The Socs, short for Socials,
are the high class rich kids who
live on the West side and wear
Madras and have Mustangs. The
Greasers and Socs have had
complications for some time and
decided to settle it for once and for
all with a rumble, a fight. The
Greasers and Socs have had
conflict for quite a while, and
wanted to resolve their troubles. A
Soc, Bob Sheldon, had died
recently from being stabbed by
Johnny Cade, a Greaser after a
freeforall in a nearby park. After
his death, the 2 social groups
decided to work out their
problems. At 7 PM, 2 days later,
the Greasers and Socs met up in
the lot. Greasers that attended the
rumble were Ponyboy Curtis,
Sodapop Curtis, Darrel Darry
Curtis, Steve Randel, Keith
TwoBit Matthews, Tim Shepard
and his gang, and a gang from the
suburb Brumly. Socs that had
attended were Paul Holden and
his gang .They both agreed that
whoever won would have to leave
each other alone and get out of
theirterritory.
Before the fight had began, at
6:30, Ponyboy Curtis said he
wasn't feeling well and took 5
aspirins. His brother, Darry Curtis,
said that it wasn't best for him to
fight since he wasn't feeling well.
Even though Curtis was sick and
fight, he had to for his

The Greasers got ready for the
rumble and then headed out while
chanting that they are Greasers
and proud. When the Greasers
arrive at the lot, they see Tim
Shepard and his gang and the
Brumly gang. They all shook
hands and soon afterwards, 4
cars drove up carrying 22
Socs.The Socs and Greasers
confirm that its only going to be a
fist fight only, no weapons. Then
the fight would begin with an ice

To start the fight, Darry Curtis
challenges any Soc to take him
on. Paul Holden, a ripped, blonde
Soc, had taken up the challenge
and D. Curtis had smiled and his
eyesturning
icy cold. The two were eyeing
each other in a
counterclockwise circle and the
silence and breathing grew
heavier. The tension and
tranquility grew and grew until it
was interrupted by a familiar
voice. Winston yelled Hold up!
Hold it! at them to join the fight,
fresh from the hospital and
Holden swung a hard punch to
Curtisjawandthefightwason.
P. Curtis saw that Winston was
getting hurt the most by a Soc
and jumped on the Socs back
and pulled his hair and attacked
him. Then the Soc threw him
over and Shepard accidently
stepped on him and knocked the
wind out of him. When P. Curtis
got his breath again, he got on
the Socs back again and started
to strangle him and then Winston
knocked him backwards and
they were all
fighting,punching,and
cursing.Then 2 Socs had kicked
P. Curtis, in the ribs and the
head hard and P. Curtis tried to
not blackout. S. Curtis had gotten
extremely angry at the Soc who
kicked P. Curtis in the head. "I've
never seen him so mad. I think
he could have whipped anyone,
in the state he was in." Said D.
Curtis. Then Winston had yelled
cheerfully "They're running! Look
at the dirty run!" and the Socs
were getting in their cars and
driving away. The Greasers had
won and the Socs had lost! After
the rumble P. Curtis had gotten a

had a scar on his forehead and a
black eye and S. Curtis had a cut
on his lip and a bruise on his
cheek.Matthews had 4 stitches on
one side of his cheek and seven in
his hand on his knuckles. Winston
had died from getting shot by
police from stealing from a local
store, trying to cope the death of
