Title:

To determine the moment of inertia of a flywheel.

Objective:
To study the moment inertia of a flywheel.
Apparatus and Materials:
1. Flywheel
2. Digital stop watch
3. Slotted masses with hanger
4. Meter rule
5. clamp
!. Thread

%. &ernier caliper
Setup:
1. The flywheel clamped to the side of the $ench.
2. 'ne end of the thread is fi(ed to the flywheel. The other end is tied to the mass
hanger.
3. The thread rolled round the a(le of the flywheel.
4. The distance $etween the $ase of the hanger and the floor is) h.
5. *hen the masses released) the masses accelerate downward) and flywheel
ha+e an angular acceleration.

Procedure:
1. The initial height of the load measured. This height is fi(ed.
2. The mass was put onto the hanger.
3. The load released) and the stop0watch started simultaneously.
4. The time for the load to touch the floor noted.
5. The mass of the load) m +aried. The a$o+e steps repeated) and a total of eight 3%4
sets of +alues of m and t o$tained.

%. From the graph) the moment of inertia of the flywheel determined.
