HISTORY OF TCCSTFI
Tagum City College of Science and Technology Foundation, Inc. (TCCSTFI), is a non-stock non-profit educational foundation with a mission to provide training and education to meet the workforce development needs of the communities it serves by developing the skills which enable students to participate and optimize employment opportunities. It has its humble beginnings as a technical-vocational school and operating under the name Tagum City Institute of Technology in 2007 with a few classrooms in the rented second floor of Pereyras Building, New Public Market, Tagum City and catering to some 172 students, more or less. In 2011, and only a span of four (4) years, however - and owing to the tireless persistence, resilence and fortitude of spouses Deo Casintahan and Leodivica Casintahan, (incorporators and current members of the BOT), assisted by its able school officers, teachers and staff - it has grown to become what is now known as TCCSTFI. From a rented floor of a building, the college then moved to its residence to a one-hectare lot along Gazmen Road, Tagum City, where seven hundred (700) square meter per floor of its four-storey building stands. The building boasts of complete learning classrooms, laboratories, shops and facilities, such ii
as: a Food Services Management Laboratory, Automotive Shop/Laboratory, Tourism Management Laboratory, Computer Laboratory, Internet Laboratory, Computer Hardware Management Laboratory, Audio-Visual/Dark Room, Library, and Student Lounge. It also has a Canteen and a Basketball Court. As an institution of higher learning, TCCSTFI caters to both College and Technical-Vocational Education, and has also started operating grade 7 and grade 8 classes in line with the transition of the education system to the new K+12 education program. It also has short-term special skills training in coordination with TESDA. Notably, it has just opened its four-year course beginning school year 2012-2013. For the school year 2014-2015, TCCSTFI continues to grow with the opening of its Grade 9 program. TCCSTFI is also an accredited Assessment Center Office of TESDA with assessment services for Automotive NC1, Automotive NC2 and FBS Assessments. Still in its infancy, it may be gainsaid that the current of growth of TCCSTFI is a positive indicator of more good that is yet to come. Considering the global need for skilled workforce, and particular focus on science, technology and communication by reason of which the national education system was changed address this global trend TCCSTFI is more determined to better its service and make its mark as a formidable college of science and technology and center for world-class competitive skills training. iii
With the school administration ever conscious of global competitiveness, instruction improvements, research, community extension services and foremost, the welfare of its human resources, the school organizational structure was innovated. Thus, in the summer of 2014, a new administration was established under the leadership of Dr. Warlita C. Canque, Ed.D as Executive Vice President for Academics and Operations, working hand in hand with Deo S. Casintahan, MBA, as School President. The thrust of the new administration is to work in unity enfolded by Gods grace and blessing that will pave the way for the school to be in the ranks.

INTRODUCTION
Field studies and field activities give the students a chance to see the world (its cultures, diversity and realities) for themselves. As they work as a group, they share what they are experiencing with the others. Instead of simply watching an image on the screen or listening to the experiences of others, they are personally experiencing the environment, interacting with it directly, engaged in the activities at the site, working with the processes to be studied, and observing first-hand the learning that each new location can provide. Seeing life and the world first-hand promotes a clearer understanding of world, its workings and relationships. It reinforces previous classroom lessons and brings a higher level of "realism" and "believing". How would one understand or be expected to understand without being exposed directly to the manifestations of concepts and ideas. Only by being immersed within an environment or practical activity can one "feel" its importance, its impacts, and its dynamics with your senses of touch, hearing, smell and sight. As a living and thinking organism, one uses their senses to make comparisons, discover similarities and differences and to observe the specific relationships in the world.
