TAKE TIME TO CHECK GAUGE. SKILL LEVEL INTERMEDIATE CHANNEL ISLAND CAST-ON Place a slip knot on needle, leaving a long tail approx 6 times the length of the cast-on edge. Double the tail and hold in left hand, hold single strand from ball in right hand. *Wrap doubled tail twice counter-clockwise around thumb, insert nee- dle up and through both wraps, take single strand around needle from back to front to make st, pulling the knot up to the needle. Yo with single strand2 sts cast on. Rep from * until desired number of sts are on needle. If casting on an odd number of sts, end with 2 doubled wrap sts to avoid a yo as last st. Rnd 3 P the knit sts and k the purl sts. Rnd 4 Rep rnd 2. Rep rnds 14 for double seed st. HAT With smaller needle, cast on 115 sts using Channel Island cast-on method. Join, taking care not to twist sts, and pm for beg of rnd. Rnd 1 Knit last cast on st tog with 1st st, k to end of rnd114 sts. Beg with a purl rnd, work 13 rnds in garter st (p 1 rnd, k 1 rnd). Next (inc) rnd [K1, M1, k2, M1, k16] 6 times 126 sts. Change to larger needles. Beg pats Next rnd [Work cable pat over 6 sts, work in dou- ble seed st over 15 sts] 6 times. Cont in pats as established until piece measures approx 6"/16.5cm from beg, end with a rnd 4 of cable pat.
