In terms of Ethnic and Cultural

The population and ethnic composition in Jakarta, always changing from year to year. Based on population census, it
was noted that there are at least seven major ethnic that inhabit Jakarta. The Javanese are the largest ethnic
population is 35.16% of the population of the city. Betawi ethnic amounted to 27.65% of the population of the city.
Jakarta is quite rapid development since the early 1970s, has been widely displacing ethnic Betawi village to the
suburbs. In 1961, the Betawi people still form the largest percentage in a rural area such as Cengkareng, Kebun
Oranges, Sunday Market, and Pulogadung.



The Chinese have been present in Jakarta since the 17th century. They used to live clustered in residential areas
known as Chinatown. Chinatown or Chinese village can be found in Glodok, Pinangsia, and Djatinegara, in addition to
new estates in the area of Kelapa Gading, Pluit, and Sunter. Many Chinese people who work as entrepreneurs or
merchants. Besides ethnic Chinese, ethnic Minangkabau are also many who trade, including wholesale and retail trade
in traditional markets in Jakarta.


Jakarta Culture is a mestizo culture, or a culture of diverse ethnic mix. Since the days of the Dutch, Jakarta is the
capital city of Indonesia that attracted immigrants from within and outside the archipelago. The tribes that inhabit
Jakarta, among others, Javanese, Sundanese, Minang, Batak, and Bugis. Aside from the inhabitants of the
archipelago, Jakarta also absorb the culture of foreign cultures, such as Arab culture, Chinese, Indian, and Portuguese.


While the majority of the tribe in Surabaya Java Compared with the Java community in general, in Surabaya Javanese
temperament little harder and egalitarian. One reason is Surabaya away from the palace which is seen as the center of
Javanese culture.


Although Java is the ethnic majority (83.68%), but Surabaya is also home of various ethnic groups in Indonesia,
including the Madurese (7.5%), Chinese (7.25%), Arabs (2.04%), and the rest are other ethnicities such as Bali, Batak,
Bugis, Manado, Minangkabau, Dayak, Toraja, Ambonese, and Aceh or foreigners.


Surabaya has typical Javanese language known as (Boso Suroboyoan). This language is spoken in Surabaya and
surrounding areas, and have an influence in the eastern part of East Java Surabaya known .. People quite fanatic and
proud of their language. But by the advanced civilization and the many immigrants who come to Surabaya which has
mixed language Suroboyo, Ngoko Java and Madura, Suroboyo native languages are extinct.


In terms of economy





Jakarta is a city with a considerable degree of rapid economic growth. As well as a mega city, Currently, more than
70% of state money circulating in Jakarta. Jakarta's economy is mainly supported by trade, services, property, creative
industries, and finance.


Several trade centers in Jakarta, which became a big enough turnover is Tanah Abang area and Glodok. Both of these
areas each being a textile trading center as well as electronic goods, with circulation throughout Indonesia. Even for
the Tanah Abang textile goods, many of them become an export commodity. As for the financial sector, which
contributes greatly to the economy of Jakarta, is the capital market and banking industry.


For the capital markets industry, in May 2013 the Indonesian Stock Exchange recorded as exchanges that provide the
greatest advantage, after the Tokyo Stock Exchange.



While Surabaya As a metropolitan city, Surabaya became the center of economic, financial, and business in the area
of East Java and sekitarnya.Surabaya and the surrounding region is an area of the most rapid economic development
in East Java and one of the most advanced in Indonesia with economic growth mean average of 7.5% per year.



Surabaya is also one of the most important cities in supporting the economy of Indonesia, together with Jakarta,
Medan, Bandung, Makassar, and other major cities. Most of the inhabitants are engaged in services, industry, and
perdagangan.Di Surabaya also has Lamong Bay Ports operating in August 2014 and is the second largest port after
Port of Tanjung Perak Surabaya and green will be the first port in Indonesia.
Lamong Gulf port will be the port buffer to Tanjung Perak Port.
