ALCATEL-LUCENT

7510 MEDIA GATEWAY

The high-capacity Alcatel-Lucent 7510 Media Gateway (MGW) builds a service-aware edge for
video, voice, fax and data in user-centric broadband networks by providing any-to-any media
switching and interworking. It allows exible rollout of new IP services and PSTN migration
in both the metro-transit and the local-access layers of the Alcatel-Lucent IP Multimedia
Subsystem (IMS) solutions as well as in any multivendor next-generation network. The 7510 MGW
supports the Alcatel-Lucent WebRTC border controller function by performing media translation
from a WebRTC client to the IMS core, as part of the Alcatel-Lucent WebRTC solution bridging
telecom and web. The 7510 MGW, combined with the Alcatel-Lucent 5450 IP Session Controller
(ISC), forms the distributed conguration of the Alcatel-Lucent IP Border Controllers solution.
The 7510 MGW supports the Centralized Access Border Gateway Function (C-BGF) to provide
the bearer processing and security capabilities.
MULTISERVICE MEDIA
NETWORKING
The Alcatel-Lucent 7510 MGW builds high
business value based on multiservice
exibility across six dimensions:
Multiple services: Supports end-user
services ranging from toll-quality voice to
multimedia streams
Multiple solutions: Provides a single
platform for hosting key media-
networking solutions ranging from TDM
switching to VoIP trunking, digital loop
carrier (DLC) and PBX connection to access
or peering session border control, and
Signaling Gateway (SGW) applications
Multiple sizes: Allows seamless scaling
of production services across a wide
capacity range without compromising
essential attributes such as cost per
channel, resilience and interface feature
compatibility
Multiple standards: Offers an IMS-
compliant interface to the service-delivery
platform based on the leading protocol
standards, Megaco/H.248 and SIGTRAN
Multiple softswitches: Provide
interworking that is also proven with
non-Alcatel-Lucent softswitches, Media
Gateway Control Functions (MGCFs) and
Interconnection Border Gateway Functions
(IBGFs) for IP Peering
Multiple switching options: Maintain
Quality of Service (QoS) by switching
the media natively, through IP or TDM,
without excess transcoding stages

KEY FEATURES
Multiservice: Converged platform capable
of hosting VoIP trunking, and access and
session border applications concurrently;
integrates key IMS functions such as:
IMS media gateway (IMS-MGW)
Trunking Media Gateway Function
(T-MGF)
Access Transfer Gateway (ATGW) for LTE
Interconnection Border Gateway
Function (IBGF)
SIP signaling rewall
Centralized Access Border Gateway
Function (C-BGF) and SGW
WebRTC-Border Controller
High scalability: Allows exible use of
generic slots for pooled media resource
and interface cards
Multivendor networking: Complies with
the IMS proles for signaling and control
protocols, Megaco/H.248 and SIGTRAN
Carrier grade: Provides toll-quality
voice services with highest availability
(100-percent hitless redundancy)
Multiple Adaptive Multi-Rate (AMR) sets:
ATGW/Access Session Border Controller
(SBC) supports one AMR set containing
all 8 possible AMRs and does not require
digital signal processing (DSP) resources
and transcoding when both parties use the
same rate that is a subset of the full AMR
set
Wideband CODEC support: Wideband
transcoding between mobile and xed
voice (AMR-WB, G.722) to deliver higher
delity audio
Encryption and security: Secures audio
and video calling trafc, which is
especially important for audio and video
trafc that may traverse the Internet;
supports secured Real-time Transport
Protocol (sRTP)
KEY BENEFITS
High asset productivity
Delivers critical end-user services with
high quality
Provides guaranteed non-stop services
Lowest cost of ownership (TCO)
Flexible congurations (see Figure 1)
Lowest TCO for all MGW and BGW
application
Scalability ensures efcient capacity
expansions up to highest port densities
Multiservice platform generates
economy-of-scale savings and
safeguards investment while evolving
to a converged, end-to-end, all-IP
architecture
Virtual Media Gateway concept
Simultaneous operation of all TGW and
BGW applications in one chassis
Split of one physical MGW into multiple
virtual entities controlled by different
MGCFs and/or IBGFs
