Bravo For

Our Community
Jobs &
Opportunity
Across Ward 17 too many people in our
community are struggling to fnd work
that will pay the bills, much less help
them build a future for themselves and
their families. Its been too hard for too
long to fnd too few good jobs in our
neighborhoods.
We need new city leadership to focus
on economic development that lifts all
boats. We cant just leave it to private
companies to do the job.
City government has to play a bigger
role to make sure economic develop-
ment leads to opportunity for neighbour-
hoods across our city.
I promise to:
Continue calling for Negotiated Com-
munity Beneft Agreements with de-
velopers and city infrastructure con-
tractors to ensure specifc benefts,
such as local hiring.
Fight to make Toronto a living wage
city.
Transit &
Transportation
Thousands of people in our community
rely on public transit every day; to get
to work and school; to take their kids to
daycare; to shop and run errands. Its an
important service in our community.
Yet, it seems like every year public transit
gets a little more expensive and a little
less usable. Fares keep going up while
buses and streetcars get more crowded.
You just need to take a ride on the Duf-
ferin bus and you can understand how
crowded and diffcult using public transit
has become.
This needs to change. We need to:
Reverse cuts to the TTC and
immediately invest in increased
bus services while repairing and
expanding transit infrastructure.
Stop the costly and ineffcient
Scarborough Subway and implement
the fully planned and practical SRT
project
Include a bike lane as part of the
Eglinton Connects proposal.
Fast track the environmental
assessment of the St. Clair Bottleneck,
bring all stakeholders together to
review recommendations, and
declare the community-backed
solution an Infrastructure Priority.
Community
Services
From childcare to libraries, to parks and
recreation, we have seen too many
community services that matter cut or
allowed to fall behind over the last four
years. Here in Ward 17 our community
is not getting the fair share of services it
deserves. We need new leadership at
city hall to change that.
I will work to:
Invest new Provincial child care funds
in the creation of more subsidized
childcare spaces.
Collaborate with school boards,
libraries and non-profts to fll the gap
for families accessing safe, quality
after school programming.
Ensure any new development Section
37 and Section 42 funds include funds
for the creation of parks in Ward 17.
Reverse cuts to recreation program
funding and invest in new print and
digital resources at our libraries.
Poverty &
Housing
Poverty and Income inequality are
some of the biggest challenges facing
Toronto. Without a national housing
strategy, Torontos wait list has grown
to close to 100000, while the TCH repair
backlog grows. No group is affected by
poverty more severely than our children
and youth. Toronto cant end poverty
alone, but it can make real progress
in tackling inequality and helping all
people in our city succeed.
I am committed to:
Creating inclusionary zoning,
requiring a minimum percentage of
affordable units in new towers, and
improve the quality of existing towers
with retrofts and less restrictive zoning
to attract investment.
Expanding Torontos Student Nutrition
Program.
Implementing the recommendations
in Toronto Poverty Reduction Strategy.

Dear Neighbour,
Community is at the centre of everything I do. When my family came to Canada when
I was a child, we struggled. We struggled to ft in, with the language, and with jobs. As
I grew and started a family of my own, I wanted them to have more opportunities and
to live in a stronger community than the one I grew up in. Thats why Ive spent so
many years working to make real, positive change in our community.
During this campaign and over many years as a local activist Ive talked with so many
people and groups in our neighborhood, across the city, and outside Toronto about
how to make our community a better place and address the many challenges we face.
Inside, Ive included some of the key ideas that will help strengthen our community,
here in Ward 17 and across Toronto. There are certainly many more complex issues
facing the individuals and families in our neighborhoods and I have the experience to
know that real solutions dont just come from a single line in pamphlet or on a website.
Real solutions come from leaders working with people in the community to fnd the
answers that work for everyone involved. I know because Ive spent years working with
neighbors, teachers, parents, children and seniors to make real improvements in our
community, not empty promises.
I truly believe that our community needs a leader at city hall who will fght for our
community. Its something Ive always done and will keep doing after Election Day.
