BSED 3-Math
Lesson Plan for Grade 7
I-Objectives:
At the end of the lesson, the students must be able to:
1. Understand the process and concept of subtracting polynomials.
2. Solve the given problems in subtracting polynomials.
3. Apply patience and cooperativeness in group activities.
II-Subject matter
Topic: Subtraction of Polynomials
Reference: Students text book, eMath website
Materials: Powerpoint Presentation with the use of projector, poster (puzzle type)
Mathematical concept:
In subtracting polynomials, change all the sign of the subtrahend and then proceed to
addition of polynomials.
III-Development of the lesson
a. Daily routine
Greetings
Prayer
Checking of attendance
Checking of assignment
b. Review
Subtract the following integers:
1. 2 4 = ? -2
2. 4 (-9) = ? 13
3. -3 (-8) = ? 5
Find the sum of the following:
4. 8x and 9x 17x
5. 5x
2
+ 7x 17 and 4x
2
12x 4 9x
2
5x 21
c. Motivation:
Quotation: Every time you subtract negative from your life, you make more room for
more positive. (Relate the subtraction of negative integers to the quotation)

What is a polynomial?

Do you have any idea on how to subtract
polynomials?

Its just like subtracting integers, first we have to
change the signs of all the terms of the
subtrahend. In this equation (write on the board
the equation 5x
2
+ 2x 3 minus 4x
2
+ 2x 7) ,
where is the subtrahend?

Very good!
We have to change the signs of all the terms of the
subtrahend, so 4x
2
will be?

2x will be?

And -7 will be?

So the equation of the subtrahend is now -4x
2
2x
+ 7. Then we will change the operation sign from
minus to plus.

5x
2
+ 2x 3 plus -4x
2
2x + 7 is? X
2
+ 4.
Understood?

Anyone who wants to answer this on the board?
(4x
2
+ 3x 5) - (-2x
2
6x + 3)

Any questions? If none, please group yourselves
into three. Group one, answer number 1. Group 2
answer number 2 and group 3, answer number 3.
After answering those equations, go the board and
get the piece of paper on my table that
corresponds to your answer then paste it on the
board according to your group number with the
back side of the paper facing your classmates, and
i have a simple quote for all of us to remember.
Is an algebraic expression which contains more the
one term.

No!

4x
2
+ 2x 7

-4x
2

-2x

+7

Yes.

(ask a student to answer on the board, once the
student successfully answered the given equation
ask him/her to briefly explain)

Students form into 3 groups and perform the
activity.

f. Generalization: (let the students form their own generalization)
