In a first of its kind achievement in India, Thermax has designed and commissioned a boiler that will generate steam and power using the highly polluting distillery waste spent wash as fuel
Recycling water in steel plants Thermax is completing a water recycling plant for large steel unit coming up at Orissa. The project will treat its effluent of iron particles and oil, using specialised filters, and reuse the water in its operations.
Apart from being energy intensive, the steel sector is also a big water user. Benchmarked against global standards of 5-10 m 3 of water for every ton of steel produced, the Indian steel sector uses as high as 10-80 m 3 . The client's plant had installed a Thermax clarifier and demineraliser plant as early as 1980.
Over the past 30 years, Thermax has been providing steel majors with sustainable solutions in total water management. Thermax has supplied integrated systems - from water treatment to effluent cleaning and recycling.
Smarter municipal sewage treatment plants Thermax is commissioning a sewage treatment facility (STP) for Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation in Andhra Pradesh. Its system using the patented Fluidised Aerobic Bio- Reactor (FAB) technology would treat seven million litres of sewage per day. FAB is a better alternative to conventional waste water treatment systems that are power intensive and require constant monitoring. It needs only 1/5th the space of a conventional activated sludge process and is energy efficient.
Civic administration in various regions uses Thermax expertise to ease the pressure that growing cities exert on available water resources. Thermax has already commissioned sewage treatment projects for various municipal corporations like UP Jal Nigam, Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation, Maharashtra and Kukatpally Municipality, Andhra Pradesh, among others. Having commissioned over 350 STPs of varying capacities, Thermax, today, is the largest supplier of sewage treatment plants in India
Thermax also offers a basket of technologies for treating sewage which include - sequencing bio reactor (SBR), membrane bio reactor (MBR), small capacity STPs, physico-chemical treatment, etc.
Thermax expertise for rural drinking water project Thermax is using its water treatment expertise to provide potable drinking water in villages. It has supplied Reverse Osmosis (RO) systems to the Naandi Foundation, and has installed some units in the villages of four districts of the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh.
Naandi Foundation, a non- profit organisation established with the aim of improving the lives of the underprivileged, has already established a self sustaining model of selling drinking water on a subscription basis. It has been working with a few water treatment companies. The Foundation contacted Thermax to support its initiatives to provide safe drinking water in Andhra villages. Thermax has already supplied over 5000 RO units to industrial customers and also for public utility service at several installations including the Delhi Metro.
For Naandi, Water and Waste Solutions group of Thermax customized modular skid mounted RO units that can be installed for plug and play operations. The units provide potable water, cleaned off fluoride present in water in several Andhra districts. Thermax had installed the units with the help of its channel partner, SS Chemicals.
Industrial Effluent Treatment & Recycling Thermax provides effluent treatment solutions for various types of industrial waste water. Customised systems to suit the wide variety of effluents and to maintain efficiency are provided to industries systems based on physico-chemical and biological treatments and membrane separation are offered to suit efficiency. We have the experience and capability to design and commission a host of clarifiers, filters, aeration, coagulation and settling systems for waste from industries like chemicals, drugs, pharma, refineries, leachates, etc.
Recycle and reuse of treated effluents is profitable in the ever deteriorating environment of water scarcity. Reverse osmosis, ultra- filtration systems and other tertiary treatment processes make this possible for industries keen on resource optimisation.
Sea Water Desalination With the rising cost of fresh water and its growing scarcity, economic treatment of sea water treatment offers the possibility of bridging the demand-supply gap.
Thermax designs sea water reverse osmosis for effective and efficient desalination. Desalination involves removing dissolved minerals from sea water and brackish water (a mixture of fresh water and ocean water) and is an increasingly important source of fresh water.
We have a number of successful installations that also incorporate energy recovery systems improve the returns from the system. Thermax supplied largest seawater desalination plant to a leading chemical manufacturer in the year 2005.
