Colours
FRP can be made in any colour of your choice.
The moulded-in colour is made by even fixing of pigment
and resin and will not fade or require painting. The fresh colours
used not only enhance the working environment with their
visual effect but can also improve working efficiency.

Compared with other floor materials, FRP
moulded grating provides a series of benefits,
unmatched impact resistance, while the strength-
weight-ratio is only one-fourth of that of steel
grating. It is easy to cut and install. FRP moulded
grating is made of continuous fibreglass, fully
soaked by unsaturated polyester resin with
continuous solidification through a mould system,
whose uniform structure provides perfect bi-
directional mechanical properties.

FRP moulded grating has perfect corrosion
resistance. Different resin has different properties
of corrosion resistance. The resins, which are
widely used include orthophthalic polyester resin,
isophthalic polyester, vinyl ester resin. Vinyl ester
grating provides extreme corrosion resistance.

1. Corrosion and Chemical
Resistant
Corrosion is a major problem within industries such
as chemical, steel, food and beverage, water
and wastewater, power the list goes on. FRP
Grating is particularly designed to provide safe,
long-lasting, economical and worry-free solutions
in environments where chemicals and other
corrosives attack metal, wood and similar
materials. Depending on the environment, resins
such as orthophthalic polyester, isophthalic
polyester, vinylester or phenolic may be used in
the construction of our Gratings and SafeTreadTM
products.
2. High Strength-to-Weight Ratio
FRP Grating is manufactured as a composite of
continuous fibreglass strands and high quality
resin. It is integrally constructed for strength, and is
less than one-half the weight of steel grating
allowing easy removal for access and installation
with no heavy equipment and reduced manual
handling risks. Properly installed, FRP Grating
meets specified load requirements for steel and is
more impact resistant than metal.
3. Impact Resistance
The impact resistance of FRP Grating allows
repeated deflec tion without permanent
deformation. A certain amount of deflection can
occur with loading. Unlike metal grating fibreglass
has a good memory, so once the object is
removed the Fibreglass Grating will fully recover to
it's original position.
4. Fire Resistance
FRP Grating has been tested in accordance with
the ASTM E84 tunnel test. Depending on the resin
type it achieves a Class 1 flame spread rating of
between 525 or less.
Te st re p o rt s a re
available on request.
Special fire retardant
requirements can also
be met with extra
additives.
5. Ergonomic
Employees experience fatigue after standing on
solid c onc rete or heavy non-adjustable
galvanised steel platforms all day.
FRP Grating is an excellent solution to ease the
strain on the back, feet and legs of workers. Its
natural slight resiliency makes it comfortable to
stand on for long periods of time, thus reducing
worker fatigue. This can be improved upon by
inclusion of our plastic inserts to create further
allowable deflection.
6. Slip-Resistant
Slips and falls are a major hazard in many
industries causing injuries and lost work days. FRP
Grating is available with a concave or gritted
surface, both offering outstanding slip resistance
in wet and oily environments and have
consistently reduced slips and falls in industrial
facilities. Both also surpass the minimum
requirements of the 'low potential for slip' rating
specified by the UK Slip Resistance Group Guide
2000.
7.Life Span
More than 20 years of useful life is guaranteed for
FRP Gratings.
8. Maintenance Free
Install it and forget about it. FRP Grating is easy to
clean. Its open mesh permits debris to fall through
the grating panel preventing a hazardous build-
up on the walking surface. It is corrosion resistant
and the colour remains fast due to its ultraviolet
resistant properties.
9. Safety
FRP Gratings NON-CONDUCTIVE properties
make it ideally suited for electrically hazardous
locations, acting as an insulator. Its NON-
MAGNETIC properties allow the grating to be
used in sensitive installations where the inherent
magnetic properties of metal grating will prove
problematic and dangerous. NON-SPARKING FRP
Grating is ideally suited fo those installations
where combustible gases may be present and
accidental dropping of tools onto the steel
grating may produce sparks.
10. Cost Effectiveness
Initial purchase cost of FRP Grating compares
favourably with steel grating but the saving is
made on the superior life expectancy and zero
maintenance costs. Also, installation costs are
usually less than half that of steel grating.
Benefits of using FRP Grating and Profiles

Panel Sizes for Pultruded Grating
Manufacturing Procedure
Pultruded FRP Grating is made of pultruded
bearing bars and cross members. It has the same
chemical properties as Moulded Grating but with
higher mechanical properties in the span
direction. It is widely used for platforms, especially
where large spans are required.

Standard Range of FRP Profiles
FRP Profiles are a practical proposition for more
applications than ever before, thanks to the very
wide range of standard profiles available. We
carry one of the largest stock holdings of profile,
including standard Angle, Channel, Bean and
Box, also Tube, Bar and Rod sections. We supply a
cost effective solution for virtually every common
application, with no tooling costs and minimal
delivery lead time. All profiles can be produced in
a vast number of dimensions and are available in
five different resin systems depending on the
application.
Polyester is suitable for most industrial
applications. Vinylester Resin provides additional
corrosion resistance. Epoxy Resin offers superior
thermal stability. Phenolic Resin also maximises fire
performance as an alternative to standard resin
systems.

Examples of FRP Profiles
The pultrusion process used to manufacture FRP
Profiles provides exceptional strength, toughness
and consistency. This provides our profiles with a
number of advantages over traditional building
materials such as steel, aluminium and timber,
meaning that it is suitable for a huge range of
applications and industries.
21
Mechanical Fasteners
Bolting
This is the most common method of jointing FRP
Profiles. Stainless steel nuts and bolts are used, with
washers larger than usual to reduce local
compressive stresses. It is good practice for the
bolt to be a tight fit in the hole as this substantially
reduces local stresses. The minimum edge
distance for bolt-holes is 3.33 x the bolt diameter.
In certain circumstances fibreglass nuts, bolts &
washers can be specified to suit some chemical
environments.
Screwed Connections
Stainless steel self tapping screws can also be
used successfully in many applications involving
mechanical connections when high-strength
fasteners are not required. Self-tapping screws
may also be used in combination with adhesives.
Riveted Connections
Stainless steel and aluminium riveting is a very
effective method of joining FRP Profiles. Pop-rivets
are commonly used in conjunction with back
washers to help distribute and minimise local
stresses. The assembly should be designed so that
the rivets are not in tension.
Captive Inserts
Captive inserts are a fast, blind-fixing system
suitable for use with all materials. They are of
particular use when there is no reverse access
and can be installed at any stage of fabrication.
Adhesives
Adhesives distribute stress more evenly and are
used successfully to join FRP Profiles and for sealing
joints and surfaces. Exceptional bonds can be
obtained as long as the joint is designed to avoid
excessive peeling stresses, the surfaces are
properly prepared and the correct adhesive is
used. Epoxies and toughened acrylics are
suitable for use with FRP Profiles.
Preparation
To achieve an optimum bond, the surfaces must
be degreased with a suitable solvent. The
bonding areas must be abraded until the surface
gloss is removed, then cleaned of dust and
degreased again. The adhesive should be mixed
and applied according to the manufacturers
recommendations. The bond area should be
clamped or mechanically fastened to maintain
bond pressure and to ensure that there is no
movement until the adhesive has fully cured.

Assembly Methods
Almost all assembly methods used for wood,
aluminium, steel or other materials can be
adopted to assemble FRP Profiles.
The following techniques should be followed:
l Punches work better with a slight sheer edge
l Router bits should be diamond-coated
lDrilling speeds should take hole size and
thickness into consideration
l
acetone should be used to prepare surface
for bonding or coating
l Lag screw (lag bolts) are not recommended
for fastening FRP Profiles
lCounter support is necessary when drilling
hollow profiles
l A medium c oarse grinding wheel is
preferable to the finer grades

Our FRP manhole covers have the following properties:
Materials:
Our FRP manhole covers are made from composite materials such as glass fiber, resin,
quartz and corundum.
We apply wear-resistant and climate-resistant materials on the top surface layers so that
the product can be used under very harsh conditions.
Design:
We can custom make any man hole design, pattern or company logo on the surface of
the covers giving a personal finish to your manhole cover project.
Application Temperature Scope
The materials used to manufacture the manhole covers are important, that is why we only use
quality materials. The main material that contributes to the product application is the non
saturated polyester resin. It belongs to the thermosetting resin, the performance after its
solidification is as follows:
Longitudinal strength:250-600Mpa
Compressive strength:300-600Mpa
Stretch modulus:25-35Gpa
Break elongation ratio:1.3-10.0%

Recreational Aids
Our fibreglass grating can also be used for recreational purposes. GRATEMATES have introduced a
very versatile way of using FRP Grating with Four Wheen Drive vehicles.
Some of the many benefits of using FRP Grating:
By removing wheel spin, digging, or 'road building', there is less impact on the environment
Easy to use solo recovery device
Gritted for superior slip resistance
Drive over and through otherwise impossible obstacles
Made from durable, Fibreglass Reinforced Polyester (FRP)
Designed and tested to meet Australian fwd conditions
Supports up to 3 tonne per pair when used for bridging
Lightweight - only 10 kg per pair. Stores easily in your 4x4
12 month limited warranty
Gratemates are sold boxed in pairs. Each piece
measures 1220mm x 310mm x 30mm and weighs 5kg.
They are made from durable all weather material and
can happily remain exposed to the elements unlike other
self recovery products.
There are countless ways to carry your Gratemates with
you on all your adventures. The owner of this Nissan Patrol
carries them simply bolted to his roof racks.
Despite lowering tyre pressures AND differential lockers
front and rear, this J eep Wrangler found itself bogged to
the floor pan in the soft sand at Goolwa beach, S.A. With
no one else around to snatch it out, a pair of Gratemates
was used to rescue the vehicle.
When used as sand ladders or waffle boards in sand or
mud, they can handle the weight of ANY 4x4.
There was no way this heavy Nissan Patrol could have
taken this track through the washout without the use of
Gratemates. Hampered by an extreme approach angle
coming into the hole, the driver has used three
Gratemates to quickly build a bridge and effectively
halve the depth of the hazzard. Quicker than back-
tracking!
