Life is obviously better when you're happy. But life is at its best when other people are happy just
because they got you.
Christian Community
Coming together as children of God is always the will of God for His people,
He so desired that His people will always gather to praise, worship and to pro-
claim him as the God who made us. Throughout the scripture from the Old Testa-
ment to the New, God has always used few to impart His knowledge on the
many.
Since the time of Jesus, a new form of community gathered around Him and
that community metamorphosed into what is known today as Christian community.
This could be understood as people gathered in a location to form membership
of their faith group in a given location, also it could be understood to mean a
group of people that come together to share their faith in a particular way
amidst a bigger membership. Example of this group will be BCBP, CFC and the
likes inside the Catholic Church as the big Christian Community in an area.
Some of these smaller communities found a common bond among them to ex-
press their faith in God more uniquely and closely to the teachings of Christ. We
find such thing in different religious groups in the Church also, bringing them-
selves together in a common bond on how to follow Christ closely under the um-
brella of the Church.
The emphasis is on a common bond to follow Christ more closely, so Christian
Communities first and foremost share in the mission of Christ, foster deeper
knowledge of the message of Christ among themselves and find ways and
means of living out in a more authentic measure the message they learn. Chris-
tian community is not a social organization where people do what they like, but
rather a community of Gods people that gathered in faith, living out the good
news of Christ. Following Christ more closely is the watch word, not showing off,
socializing or mere being with others for the sake of looking for something to do.
Following the example of the first Christian community that gathered after
Christ ascended back to heaven, we are called to live out our faith in smaller
units for collaborations, sustenance, encouragement, and in true service and love
of others knowing that we are loving and serving Christ in our brothers and sis-
ters. Christian communities became the smaller unit after the family where moral,
doctrine, scripture and good values and behaviors are taught to its members for
the sole purpose of making them serious followers of Christ here on earth. In
some instances it is regarded as the Church that gathers in prayer, communion
and worship, where Christian living is fostered and nurtured. Hence our communi-
ties, being a basic ecclesial community brings about evangelization of the parent
body, the Church, prepares the members for the world beyond by guiding in the
use of the earthly riches in safeguarding the heaven abode.

Prayer is not the spare tire we pull out when we feel our life has gone flat. Rather prayer is the
steering wheel that helps direct our lives in the right path .
A Special Angel
In my younger years I
learned a beautiful prayer
that most of us recite often if
not daily. That is the prayer
to our guardian angel.
Growing up in a materially
challenged environment I was
not conscious of my guardian
angels abiding presence in
my life. Only very recently I
realized that aside from my
guardian angel I have a spe-
cial angel.
One early morning at
mass, I suddenly missed my
younger brother who at two
years old died of bronchopneu-
monia. I was six years old then.
But my memories of him still
lingers on through these years.
He was born on October 2,
the feast of the guardian an-
gels and was named Cerilo
meaning of heaven. And then
it dawned on me why at a very
tender age he was taken away
from us. He is meant to be our
familys special angel.
His prayers for us and ever
watchful care made us a very
closely knit family. We, the ten
living siblings, are for each
other a pillar of strength and
comfort. I could not even re-
member that we quarreled.
Unbelievable? But its true.
I feel so blessed and be
forever grateful to God for
the special angel He assigned
to light and guard our way.

Why Serve
About a month ago my
athlete son was diagnosed
with a rare illness post-
streptococcal glomeru-
lonephritis and its virulence
grew very fast that the doctor
strongly advised for his imme-
diate admission. We were
told if the condition cannot be
reversed my very young son
will undergo dialysis. Fear
gripped me in spite of my
prayer. What will happen
next? I immediately ask inter-
cessory prayers from the
brotherhood, priests and nun
friends, and family members.
My faith wavered as fear
intensified. I came to the point
of asking our Lord: Why you
allowed this to happen? Why
now that I am about to turn
over the chapter headship
another trial came? These
questions hounded me for
days until a priest from Don
Bosco paid us a second visit
to give my son communion.
Fr.Dodoy prayed over my son,
heard his confession and gave
him communion. Fr. Dodoy
answered the nagging ques-
tions I had earlier when he
shared that the reasons why
God allowed our son to suffer
such illness are probably; God
wants to bring the family to
closer to each other and He
wants our son to take good
care of himself. At that mo-
ment I was enlightened
Now I find deeper meaning
in every trial that comes our
way and surpassing it through
His love and grace. It brings
true joy, satisfaction, and ful-
fillment. It inspires and sustains
me in serving Him. It strength-
ens my commitment to serve
Him in whatever capacity as I
am inspired by the theme of
our ongoing Christian Life Pro-
gram # 21 But as for me and
my house, I will serve the Lord.
St. Francis of Assisi
Page 7 October 2014
Life can be less stressful and happier if we remember one simple thought; we cant have all we
desire, but God gives us all that we deserve.
Francis of Assisi was a poor little man who astounded and inspired the Church by
taking the gospel literallynot in a narrow fundamentalist sense, but by actually
following all that Jesus said and did, joyfully, without limit and without a mite of self
-importance.
Serious illness brought the young Francis to see the emptiness of his frolicking life
as leader of Assisi's youth. Prayerlengthy and difficultled him to a self-
emptying like that of Christ, climaxed by embracing a leper he met on the road. It
symbolized his complete obedience to what he had heard in prayer: "Francis! Every-
thing you have loved and desired in the flesh it is your duty to despise and hate, if
you wish to know my will. And when you have begun this, all that now seems sweet
and lovely to you will become intolerable and bitter, but all that you used to avoid
will turn itself to great sweetness and exceeding joy."
From the cross in the neglected field-chapel of San Damiano, Christ told him,
"Francis, go out and build up my house, for it is nearly falling down." Francis be-
came the totally poor and humble workman.

For me the Brotherhood will always be about service... the most meaningful
assignment I have to this day is coordinating a Brotherhood caring system for
our brothers and sisters coming from storm ravaged Tacloban ensuring that
they had a place to stay with hot meals and that immediate basic needs were
met while they planned on their future, for as long as it took. Truly this is what
the brotherhood is all about.
