A nation betrayed By the PNC and the PPP An open letter to all East Indian Guyanese By: Dr Michael Cuba Ryan, LLM-JD
APANJAT was the word used by Dr Jagan to
start a culture of treachery, hate, and death. For decades, the East Indians and the blacks in Guyana have not trusted each other. On the black side, it was distrust on the Indian side it is hate. Different organizations in Guyana have made failed attempts at bringing the two races together. They attempted to the nation but no one had the courage to keep it real and deal with the issue of race head on, they wanted to be politically correct, in their language and approach. “Coolie people hate black people and black people don’t trust coolie people, we were told as children that the best coolie is a bead coolie when you bun he and coolie people were told that black people smell horrible, lazy and would rob and kill awe, na trust them black man.” Now that we got that out the way, let us talk for real. This information is for the Blacks and Indians, who are too young to know what happened and how this started, Many many years ago, Burnham and Jagan were good friends they were so close that Burnham became Godfather for Joey Jagan who is Cheddi Jagon son. That is how close them banna was. Burnham and Cheddi formed a political party called the PPP, yes the PPP. Burnham was a founder member of the PPP. Down the road Burnham mek he hights and left the PPP and formed the PNC. Some people say Burnham was a CIA pawn and the American government wanted Jagan gone, so they help Burnham to start he own thing. All this time Indians and blacks were good friends, eat, and drink together. Big rioting started as the two parities started to fight for position. Everybody holding meetings and everybody telling their followers what happen and twisting the truth until Cheddi got mad and shouted to his people APANJAT!! OH MY GOD, APANJAT? That is a word from India that means (stick to your own kind) what Cheddi Jagan was saying to your Indian grand fathers was we were no longer British Guianese we are Indians and them is Blackman. He (Dr Jagan separated us from that day. Suddenly blacks and Indian in the then British Guiana discovered that they were different, we were no longer one people, one nation, with one destiny. We were enemies. The seed was planted. This reminded me of the Bible in the book of Genesis where Adam and Eve were running around the garden naked, then suddenly the snake arrived and whispered in the ear of Eve and told her to eat the fruit. For you people who read the bible you will remember that it was only then that Adam and Eve realize that they were naked and the destiny of humanity changed. APANJAT is the word used by Dr Jagan that separated over forty years ago. Cheddi made that mistake, and some others too nevertheless, he was a good man. After Cheddi had died, we as a nation heard so many good things on the radio and TV about Dr Jagan that I cried. I felt that the PNC had poisoned our minds so much, about whom Dr Jagan really was that we were robbed of a good man. Likewise, the PPP poisoned the minds of the Indian man in Guyana so much that they hate blacks with a passion. These betrayals by both parties are driven by the hunger for power rather than putting the interest of the nation first. At this time, I would like to address my Indian brothers and sisters and my black brothers and sisters. We were made fools of and betrayed by the political parties we support. Both the PPP and the PNC for their own egotistical ambitions and political life have separated us. Many Indians and blacks went to their graves without being able to interact in love with their next-door neighbor because they had to live that lie of a life of hate. Some loved their neighbor and could not express it in the open. Our country is in this position today because of both parties. We were tricked, the trick continued for over forty years. All over the Caribbean Indians and blacks love and show love for each other, when are we in Guyana going to give up on hate. In the southern parts of the USA, total strangers greet each other on the street both black and white and never before have they ever seen each other. We have no respect for each other at home so why do we expect citizens of other countries to respect us. Why we are angry when are refused entry and deported. When we look around queens New York, in the Indian community you see we are so divided that we exported our racial prejudice there. Racism in Guyana has become so perfected that we export it to other countries where we live. Shame on us. We need to start greeting each other on the street blacks and Indians alike, and say to each other “I LOVE YOU” we need to stop this type of madness. We are like a woman being played by two men who we trusted. MARK BENCHOP, have in the past called for racial synchronization, a call that was never truly made by the two major parties. The PPP and the PNC are stuck in the past. They have become irrelevant to world politics, Guyana, and the rest of the world. The PPP are paying us $100.00 Guyana dollars per hour, which is much less than $1.00 US Dollar per hour. We are the lowest paid in Caricom and the third lowest paid in the world. Nevertheless, we find time to hate each other. We as a people are so focused on hating each other that we miss that. If we loved each other, we would see that we are being used by the PPP and when the PNC comes to power, they will do the same thing to us. How can you protect your daughter from being a prostitute at a young age on that wage, or your son from going to prison if you continue to let this government Do you like that? The PPP for some reason have become scared of the change Mr. Benchop brings to the table. Mr. Benchop has exposed corruption at the highest level of this government. The only answer the PPP government had to proven charges of their corruption was to get a fake search warrant and break in the door to Mr. Benchop home, as the common thieves they are. When the Magistrate who signed the warrant was contacted, his public statement was “if I had known the true facts I would not have signed the warrant.” Had Mr. Benchop not been a man of integrity, he would have claimed he had One Million US dollars in his house, which was given to him by donors. However, the integrity in the man would not have allowed him to do that. This is time for a change, by the next general elections when the PPP and the PNC come around with their drinks and food and ask us to vote for them, LETS EAT THEM OUT, DRINK THEM OUT. THEN VOTE THEM OUT. Guyana needs new blood to take us further. If you as Guyanese have any shame you need to let the HATE, the PPP and the PNC go.
