6th Sunday of Easter
27th Sunday in Ordinary Time (Year A)
T
his Sundays Gospel is about the
Parable of the Tenants in the Vineyard.
The landowner referred to is God and
the vineyard is the place where all Gods
people work - the Church. The landowner
sent his servants but his workers in the
vineyard beat him. The other one was killed
and the third was stoned.
The servants represent the prophets.
For example, in the Old Testament Joseph
was thrown in a well and was sold to
slavery (Gen. 37:28); Moses never
reached the Promise Land (Dt. 34:4);
Prophet Jeremiah was imprisoned; Daniel
was thrown into a furnace and later in
a lions den; and Zechariah was stoned
(Chron. 24:21). In the New Testament,
John the Baptist was beheaded (Mt. 11:9).
John the Baptist was also considered a
prophet.
Jesus continued His parable by
speaking about the son of the landowner
whom he would send, for the earlier
servants were not well received. Finally,
he sent his son to them, thinking, They
will respect my son But beyond ones
expectation the tenants killed his son so
that they could acquire his inheritance.
Everything that is in the Parable is
happening every day. We already know
Who Jesus is, that He is our Savior, but
What Can I Give God in Return?
Fe Marina S. Siacon
almost often we openly deny Him. How?
Illegal drugs are rampant, killings are
everywhere, abortion, rape and other
illegal activities are at hand, we destroy
nature and above all, mans dignity.
We, too, rejected Jesus because we
often disobeyed Him. But despite all our
wrongdoings, He still loves us, always ready
to accept us, compassionate and loving like
our Father in Heaven.
We are the tenants! We are privileged
because God gave us great responsibility
by entrusting to us His vineyard. We are
always blessed and well-provided by graces
needed for our daily life. He gives us the
means necessary to carry out our mission.
But there will always be a time
for reckoning. God will ask us of our
accountability and we have to answer
before Him. We must deliver to Him the
produce expected of us. So, let us stop all
the foolishness! Concentrate on Him and
give gratitude for everything to Him the
fruits of Gods vineyard our life and our
love!
What will I give God in return? How
can I repay Him for His goodness to me?
As in the homily I learned from Fr.
Nathaniel Gentizon, we can repay God
through REPENTANCE, GRATITUDE, and
GOOD WORKS.
Tomorrow, October 6, is the birthday of Fr. Ronald C. De Leon, our Parish Senior
Parochial Vicar. Let us include him in our prayers and sacrifices.

ccompanying Him were the Twelve and
some women who had been cured of evil
spirits and infirmities (Luke 8, 1-2)
In the Gospel of Luke, Jesus allowed the
Apostles and some women not just to follow
him but also to work with and for Him.
According to St. Luke, these women were
cured of evil and infirmities. After having
been forgiven and healed, they became Jesus
followers and servants.
They are Magdala whom the Lord
exorcised; Joanna, the wife of Chuza, Herods
steward and leading official who looked after
his financial interests; Susanna and other
women, who were not only chosen to be
disciples because of leadership abilities but
also for their material riches which is helpful
for Jesus pastoral ministry.
WhenJesus allows people to be of service,
Jesus is actually giving themimportance, and
He makes themlive according to their dignity.
Jesus considers them special, trustworthy
and valuable for His ministry.

May
ila ginapatimaan; ikaduha, sakramento
sang Simbahan, tungod kay ini sila iya sang
Simbahan kag para sa Simbahan; ikatlo,
sakramento sang Pagtuo nga amo ang
kondisyon agud magmangin mabinungahon
ini kag amo man ang ekspresyon sang
sini nga pagtuo; ikap-at, sakramento sang
kaluwasan, tungod kay sila amo ang bunga
kag paagi agud maagumang kaluwasan; kag
ikalima, sakramento sang walay katapusan
nga kabuhi, nga amo ang ila tinutuyo kag
ginapadulongan.
Si Kristo amo ang nagtukod sang mga
Sakramento.
sang Sia nagpanghikot sang Iya ministeryo
para sa katawohan diri sa duta.
*****
Akon padayunon ini nga pagpaathag sa
masunod nga mga isyu kag pagkatapos akon
man isa-isahon ang pito ka mga sakramento
suno sa ginatudlo sang Simbahan.
Nagapasalamat ako sa mga nagpadala sang

ila pagsunod sa sini nga column, The Pastor

man ini ang akon tinutuyo kag kabay pa nga
padayunon ninyo ang pagbasa sini.
Sa Ebanghelyo sa sini nga Domingo,
ginahangkat kita nga magmangin
mabinungahon nga talamnan sang ubas
sang Ginuo. Matigayon lamang ini kon aton
naintyendihan ang aton ginatuohan, kag
aton ginakabuhi ang aton naintyendihan.
Fond Memories
at Jaro Parochial House
We, the St. Vincent Ferrer Seminary
Community - Priests and faculty, auxiliary
personnel, and seminarians - used to go to
the Jaro Convent for traditional Christmas
greetings or daigon. This daigon is done
every year for the parish priest. So, from
the time of Msgr. Sinto Msgr. Piamonte and
to Msgr. Gamboa, the community did with
this tradition. After the daigon snacks
were served. Then everybody sat down,
some on the floor, and listened intently
to the words of wisdom of their beloved
parish priest. The four walls of the Jaro
Convent were witness as to how precious
the seminarians were for everybody,
especially the priests, for they are the Alter
Christus who would someday be actually
serving the Parish of Our Lady of Candles!
These memories remain deep in my heart
and I enjoy reminiscing every moment of it
every nowand then!
- fmsiacon

In like manner, having been forgiven by
God constantly, we are called by Jesus to work
with Himin spreading the Good News. We are
valuable, important and trustworthy in His
eyes. Let us thank the Lord for this immense
grace of allowing us to be His collaborators
despite our shortcomings.
Likewise, we are also called to allow
others to help us. Let us not think that we
are the only ones who are good, that we dont
need others. Let us remember that Jesus, even
as He is our omnipotent God, He who can do
everything, has allowed others to work with
and for Him. We, who are human beings,
need one another more.
Do you allow others to work with you?
Do you make them feel special, competent
and trustworthy? Do you think that they find
you encouraging and inspiring or they find
you self-righteous and proud?
Let us pray that we may be like Jesus.
Merciful and humble as He is, He manifests
openness for others help and contribution.
W
hy do we need to rebuild the
Parochial House of Jaro Parish?
Is it because its look and
functionality is outdated? Is it because we
wanted to build a bigger one? Is it because
we just wanted to do it?
More than anything else, we embarked
on rebuilding our parochial house because
we have assessed it to be structurally unfit.
Years of wear and tear have caused some
structural components to have serious
conditions of disrepair. While the parochial
convent could have been used for a couple
of years more, the situation has already
become precarious.
During these past two months, we have
partially demolished the structure and
stored for safekeeping the materials we
saved which we can reuse for the project or
for the future. Having done with this partial
demolition we are now in the process of
insuring the structural integrity of the
parochial house.
New diggings of an average of five feet
were made to accommodate new concrete
columns which together with the beams
will serve us structural support for our two
story parochial house.
To date we have already made a
substantial acquisition of materials for this
phase of the project. This included mainly
cement, sand and gravel and deformed
bars. We acquired our materials through
credit from very reliable suppliers. Our
workers have also increased from ten to
twenty people.
The structural integrity of our new
Parochial House is designed by Engr. Nilo
Jardeleza. Architect Glenn Gealon oversees
the construction process.
We hope that every parishioner of
Jaro will be informed by the details of
this project for the simple reason that the
Parochial House belongs to the parish. As
we impart to you essential information on
this endeavor, we hope that the process of
making this project your own is realized.
Let us offer prayers that the project will
progress smoothly. We also appeal for
your financial assistance to help us build
the Parochial House of the Parish of Ntra.
Sra de la Candelaria our home!

ANILA, Oct. 2, 2014 Pope
Francis visit to the country in
2015 is a note for the faithful to
retrace or stay on the track of the true
Tuwid na Daan (right path), a nun in
the military and police ministry said in a
recent interview.
The Pontiffs meeting with Filipino
believers, which is a rare opportunity,
should remind them of the way of
Christ, of feeding the hungry, healing the
sick and comforting the troubles, said Sr.
Gloria V. Felix, FSP, who is also translator
of Italian texts for the Daughters of St.
Paul.
Compassion not publicity
The true Tuwid na Daan is also
about compassion and truth, not
publicity and political advantage, she
stressed.
That is the true Tuwid na Daan.
Christ exemplified it in the Scriptures,
Felix added.
Everyone should listen to the Holy
Father, who is Christs representative
and successor of St. Peter, she said. He
is the shepherd and we are the sheep.
The Pope is representing Christ,
who is the only way, Felix said. We
should listen to the shepherd so we can
follow the course he is leading us on.
As Christ representative, Pope
Francis will see during his visit if the
sheep are fed well, physically and
spiritually, Felix said.
Thats why he is going to areas in
Visayas hit by Yolanda, whose people
need most the shepherd as yet, she said.
Economic growth for the poor
O
ctober 1, 2014. 35,000 pilgrims
flocked to St. Peters Square to
listen to Pope Francis during his
General Audience.
The Pope spoke about the charisms
within the Church. He explained that
they are qualities that God gives to
people so that they may be used serving
in others.
The Pope humorously warned that
no one can discover their charism on
their own.
Many times we hear these people
who say, No, I have this quality, I can
sing well. And nobody has the courage
to tell them, Look, its better if you be
quiet. Because hearing you sing tortures
us. No one can say I have this charism.
One knows their charism, he
continued, when other people recognize
The nun also said the reported economic
growth should be felt by the poorest of the
poor.
Felix pointed to the fact that Filipinos are a
hospitable people, but many are left living an
undignified life due to poverty.
Their privation is worsened by crooked
politicians and their cabals, who pocket billions
of money that is supposed to ease the living
condition of the poor, she said.
The nun, who has been in military ministry
since the Marcos years, also called on people to
speak out against corruption.
The first law of creation is order.
Both the people and leaders should
adhere to and uphold it, she noted.
According to the nun, this means
that a nations wealth, which is Gods,
should feed the hungry, heal the sick, and
shelter the homeless.
Pope Francis visit will be the third
time a Pontiff will visit the Philippines.

it. Pope Francis added that once it is identified, it
is best to ask yourself three questions.
If there is a charism in me? Has the Church
recognized this charism? Am I happy with my
charism or am I a bit jealous of the charism of
others and want theirs? No, the charism is a gift.
For those Christians who cannot discern
what their charism is, Pope Francis recalled the
example of St. Therese of Lisieux. He explained
that this saint wanted to have them all, until she
discovered that only one was important.
She went to pray and felt that her charism
was to love. And she said this beautiful quote: In
the heart of the Church I will be love. And we all
have this charism.
At the end of the Audience, the Pope greeted
the 9,000 pilgrims who visited Rome to give
thanks for the beatification of lvaro del Portillo.
He also greeted the current Prelate of Opus
Dei, Bishop Javier Echevarra. Romereports.com

Lets Move Nearer to God
A Brief Review on Sacred Places, Sacred Times
Tagdala
sang Gugma
(Ginahalad sa Tanan
nga mga Katekista)
Meril E. Robles
Words from the Gospel
Johannah Ysabel F. Balagosa
O
ur sessions in Sacramental Law were
concluded with the special topic
on sacred places and times. Our
professor, Fr. Joenick S. Territorio, JCD gave
us a clear summary of sacred places as well
as sacred times.
He explained to us that Sacred places
are those which are assigned to divine
worship or to the burial of the faithful
by the dedication or blessing which the
liturgical books prescribe for the purpose.
(Can. 1205)
Sacred Places are blessed by the
Ordinary, but the blessing of Churches
is reserved to the diocesan bishop. Both
may, however, delegate another priest for
the purpose. (Can. 1207) An ordinary is a
Church official, an archbishop or a bishop
or his deputy.
Sacred Places listed in the Code of
Cannon Law include churches, oratories,
private chapels, cemeteries altars and
shrines. These places were designated
exclusives for divine worship, for the faith
and for burial. The word sacred simply
denotes something that is set apart.
The Church as a sacred place means a
sacred building intended for divine worship
in which the faithful have right to access for
the exercise of divine worship (Can 1214).
All the Catholic faithful can avail of all the
Sacraments in the Church, such as Baptism,
Confirmation, Matrimony, Eucharist,
Penance or Confession, Anointing of the
Sick, Ordination of Holy Orders.
Oratories are sacred places smaller
than the church wherein the faithful can
receive or avail of the Sacraments, but
not all. Example of oratories St. Vincent
Ferrer Seminary, Dominican Sisters
Motherhouse.
A Shrine is a church for numerous
faithful and pilgrims for special devotion.
A shrine has to fulfill some basic elements
for enshrinement. In the shrine, the priest
may be given the special privilege or the
faculty appropriate only to the bishop. The
Jaro Metropolitan Cathedral is elevated to
the level of the National Shrine of Our Lady
of Candles.
Chapels are sacred places and fitting
places for worship other than the parish
and cathedral church. These are attached
to the schools, colleges or private houses.
There is a limited use for public worship.
An altar for the Catholic Church is

B
efore I proceed with my article, I
would like to greet Fr. Nathaniel
Gentizon with a very Happy
Birthday. This could have been said last
September 28, but I was not able to reach
him even if I attempted to do so by phone
and by cellphone. May your service to the
Lord bring more people to God and God to
all His people!
The waning days of September had
wonderful results in Balabag, Pavia. Hon.
Marina Subesa, head of the barangay
Senior Citizens organization and
organizer, Andresito S. Juvilla, invited us
to a conference, to discuss the problems
of the elderly and to plan projects and
activities for the improvement of the
Senior Citizens. What made it more
touching was the celebration of the
Holy Sacrifice of the Mass before the
meeting officiated by Fr. DB Ray Badoya,
the assistant Parish Priest of Pavia. His
homily was touching and very timely.
He mentioned the fact that we need to
improve morally and spiritually. Although
we need a strong economy, clean and
healthful environment, academic
knowledge and intelligence in all forms,
a sacred table on which bread and wine
are consecrated. It is where the Passion,
Death and Resurrection of Jesus Christ
is commemorated, remembered and
officiated. An altar reminds us of the
redeeming and saving power of God, and
His great love for us.
A Catholic cemetery is a sacred place
where the body of the dead faithful is
buried. Internment place in Memorial
parks need to be blessed or dedicated to
make it sacred.
Sacred Times are those times set apart
in which the astonishing actions of the
Savior God are commemorated in order
to give God thanks and perpetuate their
remembrance throughout all generations
(Catechism, nos. 1163, 1164). The Sacred
Times in the Catholic Church is divided into
Feast Days and Days of Penance.
The Feast Days are days of celebrations
and festivals characterized by cheer, joy,
merriment and abundance. These include
all Sundays of the Year, Nativity, Motherhood
of Mary, Epiphany, Immaculate Conception,
Assumption, Corpus Christi, Ascension,
Feasts of St. Joseph, Feast of Peter and Paul
and All Saints Day.
The Days of Penance include all Fridays
of the Year. There is need for fasting, prayer
and almsgiving.
Fourteen years old and above are
expected to observe abstinence from meat
every Friday in the whole year. Eighteen to
Fifty Nine years old are to observe fasting,
that is one full meal a day, with lessened
food intake for other meals.
However, according to Fr. Joenick those
who are seriously sick and their watchers
and caretakers are not required to fast.
The promulgation of all our sacred
places and sacred times are supported by
Church doctrines and dogmas which can be
verified and attested as to their authenticity.
Thank you to all our previous speakers
and professors who have shared with us
their knowledge, wisdom and expertise
on the different topics assigned to them in
the Parish Faith Formation Program. Our
grateful acknowledgement to Rt. Rev. Msgr.
Higinio C. Velarde, Fr. Ronald C. De Leon,
Msgr. Alejandro P. Esperancilla, Fr. Joenick
S. Territorio, Fr. Nathaniel Gentizon, Fr. Rey
Zerrudo, Fr. Midyphil Billones, Fr. Ian Niel
Llona and Fr. Dennis Batacandolo.
More power and God bless us all!

we still need more to be near the Lord
at all times and in all places, because our
soul is more important than our body. Fr.
Badoya spoke of values in a very practical
manner which everybody understood.
After the Mass and election of officers,
the people moved about, confirming
the event, and made it clear that in later
activities, there must always be a Mass to
precede all other events. I was happy and
I thanked God that the spirituality of the
people had grown.
When I reached home, my grandson
who was in Don Benito Hospital caring
for his bed-ridden mother was waiting
for me. He was smiling. Good news Lola,
Mama has no more cancer. Her diabetes is
also almost cured. What medicine was
given to her? Your prayers, Lola. Didnt
we ask you to pray to God the Father for
her recovery?
A lump developed in my throat. I went
to the icon of God the Father, touched His
feet, and said my prayer of thanksgiving. I
have been praying for Evelyn for one week
and now, shes healed. She will soon be
released from the hospital.
The last week of September was an
eye-opener. We need prayers. We need
religious activities if we want to improve
our lives.
I broached the idea of conducting
value-formation seminars for community
development and most of them liked my
suggestions. There is an unfinished chapel
near the Providence subdivision, and if
my strength permits, I shall do my best to
make it a project of the senior citizens.
October is the month of the Holy
Rosary and also of the Kingship of Christ.
Let us use our Rosary beads as the stairway
to Heaven, and the crown of Jesus to light
us on our journey.
The world is only our temporary
residence, rich or poor, high or low, life
is passing. Let us gather rosebuds while
we may; the rosebuds of virtues that
will make our soul clean and white. Let
us all develop a community of love and
brotherhood, lending a hand where help
is needed sowing the seeds of Christian
brotherhood; pulling out the weeds of envy
and pride; creating a vine of temperance
and righteousness; living as Christians in
Capital letters.
