1 Technical drawings, main presentation principles
1.1 Format
1.1.1 The designer must use only the following A0 formats for the studies:
blank drawing with frame and title block,
standard frame drawings,
drawings for standard equipment.
These documents are available in the Renault guides: GE24-010R; GE24-012R; GE24-013R; GE24-
014R; GE24-015R; GE24-016R; GE24-017R.

1.1.2 The original drawings to supply to Renault are:
either in translucid polyester blueprints with white background,
or in files (see Renault standard EM24.01.375)

1.1.3 Nomenclatures
The nomenclatures must be entered using the NIOP software available at the Department 65302 section
Stamping standard.
This software requires Windows 95 or 98 European edition.
1.2 Plot
The drawings are CLEAR, ACCURATE, and CONTRASTED in respect of the background and must allow
scanning.

This involves notably:
having only black lines (plastic tips or better, black ink),
prohibiting shading,
when using self-adhesive labels, that the latter are transparent.

A single scale is used for all folios of a same inventory 1/2 or 2/5 (with the exception of details, which
must be in scale 1).

The projection method used is the EUROPEAN method.
The characters have a height of at least 2 mm.
All drawings must comply with the specifications of French standards, with the exception of a few
derogations and complements mentioned in this chapter.

Mention at the back of the blueprint of the drawing diagrams representative:
1) in wide mixed line (th. 0.9 mm), the "Outline of the part to produce" with its reference lines to the
method drawing, and the "Blank outline".

Example

2) Hash, on the scrap side, the trimming line (minimum space between 5 mm hashing, maximum length 5
mm).

3) In long dotted line (~ 15 mm), the "Press", the ram with opening of the blank holder for double effect
presses, the platform and posts, etc., as well as the "Mechanisation equipment" (iron hands, transfer
bars,...).

1.3 Representation
The tooling is represented in the closed position.

Nevertheless, to facilitate the comprehension of certain complex tooling, e.g. with cams. Whenever
possible, represent mobile elements at different stages of their movement.

Example

Tool open Implementation of cams Presser attack

Pushing of the Attack of blades for Rising the edge
mobile base trimming

An outline sketch must be drawn for each foundry element (presser, punch, blades, cam station, etc.).

Unless exception, do not represent overall views in outline.
(example: no upper frame with presser and other elements).

1.4 Representation of machined drawings and weldings
The height of machined and rough casting drawings must be represented as follows:

In outline and cross-section views, weldings are represented as follows:

1.5 Representation of assembly elements
Representation symbolic, cross-section and outline of screws and pins, left to the drafters initiative:

Example of representation in cross-section and outline of screws and pins:

Use the same fittings (diameter and length) per element or group of elements having the same function.

Note 1: In outline, all screws and pins must be represented by their axes and symbols to ensure their
differentiation. Symbolisation represents only diametric size. The length dimensions are
indicated in cross-sections. In cross-section, represent a screw and pin of each category used.
Use the same symbol to mark a screw or pin on the cross-section and outline sketch. Under
the element, specify the quantity and designation of the screw or pin. On drawing #2 of the
study, a legend of symbols of bolting must be drawn.

Note 2: The bladings or pin holes of forming blades must be drawn to show they are outside the part.

1.7 Representation of hashing
Do not represent the hashing. However, to improve the comprehension of certain details, these can be
drawn even partially. They are recommended for proximity zones of several elements, in order to check
non-interferences.
1.8 Execution of tooling drawings
1.8.1 Representation of parts
The following is required to study the tooling of symmetrical parts:
1) When tooling is not common to the two parts, draw only those for the part defined by the
manufacturing sheet.

Represent the axis of symmetry for the construction of the tooling of the symmetrical part on the study
drawing views.

2) When the tooling is common to both parts, show very clearly the marks "Left part" and "Right part".

3) When a part is symmetrical in respect of its axis, represent:
a detailed half,
the other half representing the outline of the part and frame, as well as the elements which may
be different in respect of the symmetry.
1.8.2 Quotation
1) Use the sign to indicate the machined surfaces of parts cast or cut with a blow torch.
This sign must never indicate a machining grade or surface condition.

2) The quotation of each tooling element is performed over a minimum number of drawings (length, width
plane view, cross-section height).

3) Cast parts mention the dimensions of machined parts and, if required, of the fasteners on press, as
well as the overall footprint of the tooling. To facilitate reading the drawing by the modeller, the
dimensions of the rough parts can be mentioned as follows: example: 520

4) Except for its thickness and punching diameters, the part to produce is never sized in the tooling
drawings.

5) The sizes called "Start" are used to locate the part to produce on the tooling, that for the loading-
extraction position are framed with a 0.9mm thick line to be enhanced.

6) The indications for axes, cross-sections, titles (press front, plane view, etc.) or other information (strip
width, transfer direction, HOF tool closed height, HOL, etc.) are drawn in legible bold and underlined
characters.

1.8.3 Identification of drawings, views, and cross-sections
1) Identification of sheets:
a) The sheets are referenced as follows:

2D studies
Sheet #1 General information.
Sheet #2 Main cross-section.
Then, in the following sequence:
Secondary cross-section(s).
Plane view of the lower part.
Plane view of the upper part.
Outside views.
Partial cross-sections and sections.
Miscellaneous details, pre-printed
drawings
Detail of automation system if required
(Lifting).
Loading-extraction tunnel
3D studies
Sheet #1 General information.
Sheet #2 Main cross-section.
Then, in the following sequence:
Plane view of the lower part.
Plane view of the upper part.
Axonometric views of open tools. (blank holder and
pressers are isolated to allow viewing as many details as
possible.
NOTE: The representation, if required, of hidden edges,
is reserved to a few elements to prevent cluttering the
drawing.
Partial cross-sections, sections or exploded views of
movements: Cam and counter-cam stations, detail of
automation system if required (Lifting).
Loading-extraction tunnel

b) In the case of two symmetrical parts, if the inventory of the part symmetrical to that drawn
requires additional sheets or particular details:

The additional sheets are referenced after the part drawings.
All sheets are also referenced in the list in sheet #1.

The details of the symmetrical part not requiring any additional drawings are drawn directly in
the drawings.

In both cases, the following mention must be included: APPLICABLE TO SYMMETRICAL PART ONLY

2) Identification of views and cross-sections:

Specify the indications of the cross-sections and sections, and indicate simultaneously the
number of the drawing corresponding to these cross-sections IN ALL PLANE VIEWS, lower
part, upper part, punch, presser, blank holder, etc.
In cross-sections and sections, the title must specify the numbers of drawings for all plane
views concerned.

In a transverse cross-section, the front of press must be on the left.
Note: Partial cross-sections must be used rather than broken cross-sections.

3) Marking of elements:
each tooling element is marked with a number:

For cast or machined parts For "standard" or External purchase parts
The numbers always include 3 digits from 001 to
999 and are written on a thick line. We reserve
50 marks after the parts to cast and 100 marks
after the parts to machine.
The MABEC numbers of the parts are formed of
the first 7 characters of the inventory number of
the tool, followed with the mark.
Example: mark 024, MABEC E1xxxxx024.
The numbers are taken after the parts to
machine (marker reservation included) and are
written inside a circle. We reserve 50 marks
between each category.

The marks for cast elements are accompanied with the indication of the material and any heat
treatment (example above).

In the case of symmetrical tooling, the tooling elements for the symmetrical part will have the
same denomination and marker number as the corresponding elements of the tooling for right
part.

Within a same tooling, the symmetrical elements will have the same denomination, but a
different marker number.

1.8.4 Miscellaneous information
Tag for all press tools having a cutting operation:

TRIMMING CLEARANCE :
The constant clearance measured between punch and die must be 4 % panel thickness 0.01
mm.

PUNCHING CLEARANCE:

It is imperative to use matrices STANDARDS Renault norm EM24.53.300

For the realization of punching NOT STANDARD, use the following values:
e = Material thickness
a = cutting gap

e 1,2mm a = 0,035mm from radius
1,2mm < e 3mm a = 7% of e (from radius)
3mm < e a = 10% of e (from radius)

The tag must also be located to the left of the title block on drawing #2.

2 "Assembly FOP"
The "Assembly FOP" sheets replace assembly sheets. These sheets are documented according to the
documents cited and accessible in Renault standard EM24.02.032.
3 Managing modifications
3.1 Preamble
It is best first to modify the manufacturing sheet before changing the studies, in order to prevent indicating
tooling indexes already used. However, a sheet modification performed without considering the
consequences on tooling sometimes requires changing the manufacturing sheet (e.g. additional hole
planned in OP40, easier to perform at OP50). To optimise costs and lead times, the sheet and studies
must be modified after discussion between preparation and studies.
It is important to properly assess the need for a tooling improvement request. The latter must help
obtaining the part, in good conditions, without fragilising the tool.

Note: When studying a modification, it is vital not to create interferences for loading and
extracting the part, and also prevent poor or lack of operation of the tool.
3.2 Studies
3.2.1 Representation of the drawing of a modified part
The initial drawing of the part must never disappear from the folios.
Stripes and hashing are redrawn on the verso of the drawings on new part profile; whereas those which
become useless (old profile) are removed.
The schematic representation of a part modification or removal of buttonholes is defined below:

Note: Caution! Do not colour any zone on drawings. Use hashing or different types of patterns to
render the drawings on screen (electronic archiving).

3.2.2 Representation of tooling elements

In all folios concerned, show the new tooling elements, while maintaining older drawings which will be
stricken at the back of the folios (same principle as for drawing a part). See examples in pages 23 and 24.
In digital, the drawings of old zones impacted by a modification belonging to a specific LAYER (one layer
per modif set).
If the representation of the modification is likely to become difficult to interpret, a zone in a folio or a
complete folio can be cancelled, and a modification folio created with the different views or several
modification folios. See examples in pages 25 and 26.
Note: In case of major modifications, initiating a new project may be required.

3.3 Distribution of drawings and nomenclatures
The following prints must be distributed upon each modification:
sheet #1 of studies
sheets impacted by the modification
the .mdb files produced from NIOP for nomenclatures

3.4 Documentation of nomenclatures
3.4.1 General
For press tooling studies:
parts to cast and parts to machine,
standard parts,
The nomenclatures are entered using the NIOP software.

Renaults MABEC numbers for the parts to cast and parts to machine are formed with the first 7
characters in the inventory number of the tool, followed with the 3-digit marker for parts.

3.4.2 Parts to cast
Parts to cast are marked starting from 001. Specify the designations, numbers, materials, weights, as well
as heat treatments planned and hardness if required.

They are consolidated per parts in the same material, while leaving three markers available between
each group for modifications.

3.4.3 Parts to machine
Marks for parts to machine start from about 50 marks after the last for parts to cast.
Specify the designations, numbers, materials, any heat treatments, hardness if required, and dimensional
characteristics of the rates.
They are consolidated per parts in the same material, while leaving markers available between each
group for modifications.

3.4.4 Standard parts
Marks for standard parts start from about 100 marks after the last for parts to machine.
Between each category, marks must be left available for modifications.

3.4.5 Particular case of multi-station tools
For multi-station tools, the lists of parts to cast and to machine are consolidated per station, while always
leaving marks available between each group for modifications.
For standard parts, proceed as with other types of tools.
