Attendance will be checked as long as a noticeable number of students are Attendance
absent. The record will be used in adjusting the course grade.
The homework problems, grouped in each chapter, are assigned in next Homework
page. Although homework will not be collected or graded, you are expected
to do (almost) all of them, as most of exam questions will be modied from
homework problems.
A brief quiz will be given on every Wednesday, with the exception of the Quizzes
rst week, and the weeks in which an hour test is scheduled. Each quiz is
worth 6 points, and your quiz grade will be the sum of your 10 best scores.
The three midterm exams will be taken in class for fty minutes each, and Exams
the nal will be taken in the same room for two hours; see next page for
the dates. Only under rare circumstances (such as illness with a doctors
written excuse) will a make-up exam be given.
The total score of this class is 500, with 60 points for quizzes, 240 points Grading
for the three midterm exams (80 points each), and 200 points for the nal.
The course grade will be determined by a scale: Approximately, let S be your
total score, then you may expect to obtain 4 if S 425; 3.5 if 400 S < 425;
3 if 375 S < 400; 2.5 if 350 S < 375; 2 if 325 S < 350; 1.5 if
300 S < 325; 1 if 275 S < 300. Anyone who has less than 275 points at
the end will get zero. A poor class attendance record will result in a shifting
of the grade to lower levels.
