WHOMP, WHOMP!

In a joint effort by the Glasgow Fire Department

and Long Run Fire Department, Tuesday night in
the Shopko parking light was a Fire Prevention
demonstration. One of the highlights for numerous
kids was to climb into one of those great big fire
trucks and give a pull on the rope that sounds
the horn. Assisted by Long Run firefighter Dillon
Koski, it certainly brought a broad smile to the
face of Piper Brandt as she gave it a few good
blasts. Free barbecued hot dogs and soda pop
were also popular, and not just with the kids. A big

She lightens the way, by being so wise.

She lightens a room so radiantly waiting.

Hospice Inspiration

First I would like to say how proud I am of our
Hospice Home staff; Im talking more about the time my
Mom spent at hospice home.

I believe in signs from above, clouds, birds,
nature, and gentle breezes all Gods creations.

On May 1st Rhonda was visiting with Mom
saying a prayer with her. She called to tell me that while
she was praying a white dove flew by Moms window.
This isnt the first time doves have been a sign to me.

Then on May 3rd it was evident that Moms time
was coming near. I spent several hours at the home at
one time I let Jennifer know that I just had to leave for
a bit, no place to go, nothing of importance to do just
needed to leave to collect my thoughts, I knew Mom
was in great hands. Berney, my brother had sent her
a mothers day card so I went to the post office to see
if it had arrived; it had so I went back to the home to
read it to Mom. I can honestly say she did respond to
Berneys card and his precious words to her. I stayed
for a few hours more; than just had to leave. It was hard
watching this transition that she was going through.
Jennifer assured me that if I left and if Mom chose this

time to go it was OKAY.

I came home, sat on my deck and talked with Dad
telling him it was his turn now. That the nurses and I
had done all that we could, so please Dad come and get
her, tell her its time to go dancing (they loved to dance).
About that time two doves swooped down in front of me
crossing one another in flight, at that time the phone
rang and Jennifer said Loni, your Moms eyes are open
I know she is looking for you. I headed to the home,
not knowing how to handle this transition. I let Jennifer
know I had not experienced this and didnt know what to
do. The power of a gentle persons hands Jennifers.
She touched my shoulder with her other hand on Moms
pulse; through her strength coming through to me I was
able to talk with Mom. Telling her she was beautiful,
Dad wanted to go dancing and God had other plans for
her. This lasted a few minutes and once again a dove
sat on her window for a brief moment and Mom was
gone.

This was one of the most amazing things I have
ever been through. Moms final journey was peaceful,
calm, and so blessed with the help of her families
prayers, Hospice, Jennifer, and God.

Daines calling for federal funding

Representative Steve Daines today called for a

Presidential Disaster Declaration for several Montana
counties, including Valley County, to repair damages
caused by late summer flooding.
In a letter to President Obama, Daines pressed the
White House to honor the State of Montanas request
for a Presidential Disaster Declaration for Fort Belknap
Indian Reservation and Blaine, Carter, Musselshell,
Valley and Petroleum Counties.
Severe flooding resulting from several bands of
storms from August 21 to August 25 caused significant
damage in these areas.

The flooding, nearly unprecedented at this time of
year, caused severe damage to buildings, infrastructure
and homes and created considerable hardships for
Montana communities. Additionally, we have seen crops
destroyed across the region making the livelihoods of
many Montanans difficult to sustain, Daines wrote in
the letter to President Obama. While I understand that
Governor Bullock has committed significant state funds
to this recovery effort, I believe a federal component is
essential to make the necessary repairs as it is beyond
the financial means of the state.

Tester stays in the fight for COOL

Senator Jon Testers haircut may be from the 1950s,
but he knows that being COOL never gets old.
COOL Country of Origin Labeling allows
American families to know where the meat they buy
at the store is raised and processed. Tester is a staunch
supporter of the rule, saying that consumers have the
right to know where their food comes from and that
U.S. producers have the right to market their livestock
as born and raised in America.
But with the popular rule still under consideration
at the World Trade Organization (WTO), Tester sent
Senate leaders a bipartisan letter urging them to reject
any efforts to weaken or suspend COOL rules as
Congress works on end-of-the-year funding legislation.
Testers letter, which is signed by fellow Montana
Senator John Walsh, highlights how earlier this year the
Senate Appropriations Committee rejected attempts
to weaken or suspend COOL enforcement. sense food
labeling.

The bottom line is that the overwhelming majority
of Americans want to know the origin of the meat they
feed their families. American should not be deprived of
that information, Tester said.

Hunters Reminded To
Have Horses Inspected

Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks and the Montana

Department of Livestock remind hunters that horses are
required to have a brand inspection before crossing county
lines.
Its a pretty common violation during hunting
season, said John Grainger, Brands Enforcement Division
administrator for DOL. Producers move livestock all
the time and are generally familiar with transportation
requirements, but sometimes hunters just dont know.
Grainger recommends that hunters get their horses
inspected in advance of their planned departure. The fine
for not having a proper inspection is $135.
The inspection is good for a year of movement, or one can
obtain an inspection good for the life of the horse.
If you hunt on horses, just add getting a brand
inspection to your check list, Grainger said.

An annual inspection costs $6, and a lifetime is $25.
A map of brand inspectors by county can be found on the
DOL website at liv.mt.gov; click Brands Enforcement
then Service Map. Annual and lifetime inspections can
also be issued at livestock markets, which are also marked
on the online map.
