Establishing Tamper Proof ATMs Using Biometric And OTP
Abstract
Very often there are lots of fraudulent measures that take place with the help of present ATM cards.
One of the main misuse of the card is the use of the card by someone else apart from the prescribed
user. Many often this happens even by close associates of the person and by various thieves who
steal the ATM card. Also as the card is magnetic stripe card there may be easy reproduction and the
card damage happens because of contact it makes with the machines.
This project aims at overcoming these flaws of the system. In this project the aim is to use finger
prints for complete access and the ATM functions only if there is a finger print match. Further if the
user wishes the system can be made to access ATM by more than one person by accepting their
finger prints.
An ATM machine houses a GSM module along with the usual finger print reader and things.
Whenever a person wants to use the card he goes to the ATM centre and the makes transaction by
placing the finger print. Each customer as well known has distinct finger prints as their distinct
identification. But the ATM machine not only matches the finger print but also silently makes
contact with the concerned person through the GSM modem. It sends a randomly generated code
which is called as One Time Password (OTP) to the owners mobile number which has already been
stored in the data base.
The owner has the option of allowing the transaction to proceed or stop the transaction if he detects
foul play by some one. For that the person has to retransmit the number to the atm centre. The atm
machine compares the number and allows the transmission only if its correct. If the machine
receives the changed number it immediately understands that the person using the machine is not
authorized and the same system can send the message to the nearby police station a message about
the misuse. And the machine if cannot communicate with the concerned person automatically
cancels the transaction after a particular amount of time.

Existing System
1. In the existing system, apart from the prescribed user anyone can access their ATM card
2. It does not possess unique identification code for accessing
3. The total security system is based on ATM card and Password

Proposed System
1. In the proposed system finger print recognition should be done to access the account
2. The ATM can be made access to their family members by just accepting their finger prints
3. GSM gives alert when a wrong person is trying to access the ATM.
