Exercise 2: (page 8) The amplifier circuit shown is biased to operate at I D = 1 mA and g m = 1 mA/V.
Neglecting r o find the midband voltage gain A M = v o / v i . Find the value of C S that places the corresponding pole at 10 Hz. What is the frequency of the transfer-function zero introduced by C S ? Give an expression for the gain function V o (s)/V i (s). What is the voltage gain of the amplifier at dc?
Exercise 3: (page 10) For the CE amplifier circuit shown, the given BJT data is: V 100 V ; 50 r ; 120 ; mA 33 , 0 I A x E = = = = . Find the midband voltage gain A M = v o / v s , the low 3 dB corner frequency f L and the frequency of the zero due to C E . Redesign the values of the capacitors to make f L 100 Hz using the design approach suggested.
Exercise 4: (page 19) For the CE amplifier circuit shown assume the BJT has f T = 700 MHz and C ob = 1 pF, other data as in Ex 3. Find the high 3 dB corner frequency f H using Millers theorem and the method of OCTC.
Exercise 5: (page 21) For the CB amplifier circuit shown, the following BJT data is given: pF 1 C ; MHz 700 f ; 120 ; mA 33 , 0 I ob T E = = = =
Find the input resistance R in seen by the source and the midband voltage gain A M = v o / v s .
Estimate the location of the two poles and the upper 3 dB corner frequency f H .
Exercise 6: (page 23) Refer to the emitter-follower circuit on page 22. Take R S = R L = 1 k. The BJT is biased at I C = 1 mA, and has = 100, r x = 100 , C
= 0,1 pF, f T = 2 GHz and V A = 20 V.
Determine the midband voltage gain A M = v o / v sig and the frequency of the dominant high-frequency pole.
