What do I need to complete?

Your task is to produce a booklet describing the five pillars of Islam & explaining
why Muslims follow them. You should clearly show how a belief in following these
rules might make a Muslim act. Your project should include both writing and pictures
and you should use a variety of sources.

What to include in your report:

• A front cover. This should include title of booklet and a picture.


• An outline of what the five pillars are.
• A description of how Muslims follow each rule in their lives and how it might
make them behave.

You should include maps and pictures of the Hajj here, information on when and
how the Muslims pray, information on how Muslims give to charity and how and
why Muslims fast. An explanation as to why these actions/events are important
to Muslims today should also be included.

• Describe and explain the impact of following these rules for Muslims today.
• How do these beliefs affect their actions and how they live their lives?
• Bibliography (List of where your information came from)

Your project should be neatly and should include pictures either drawn or taken from
the internet.

Assessment Criteria:

Level 3 You can retell religious stories or ideas, with basic descriptions collected
demonstrating basic knowledge of the 5 Pillars of Islam.
Level 4 The report includes a description of the 5 Pillars showing a sound
knowledge and understanding of religious expression. You begin to
explain why Muslims see these rules as important.
Level 5 The report is a detailed description of the5 Pillars. The project also shows
a clear understanding of why they are important to Muslims. You have
also tried to communicate the feelings that Muslims may experience
when following these rules/ fasting/going on pilgrimage.
Level 6 The report is a detailed description of the 5 Pillars and offers clear
explanations as to why Muslims follow them. The project also shows a
good understanding of why it is important for religious groups to follow
rules. The work has evidence of analysis (weighing up the pros and cons)
as a conclusion to the report demonstrating an understanding of the
importance of rules. You have also communicated the feelings that
Muslims may experience on the pilgrimage/ when praying/ fasting. Plus
there is an attempt to compare these rules with those followed in other
religions.
Level The report is a detailed description of the 5 Pillars and offers very good
7/8 explanations as to why Muslims follow them. The project also shows an
excellent understanding of why it is important to religious groups to
follow rules. The work has clear evidence of a critical analysis as a
conclusion to the report demonstrating a clear understanding of the
importance of the 5 Pillars. You have also fully communicated the feelings
that Muslims may experience through following the rules – whilst
praying/fasting/ on pilgrimage. In addition, there is a clear comparison
with such events in more than one other religion.
