BRIEF HISTORY OF THE UNIVERSITY

ngeles University Foundation (AUF),
formerly Angeles Institute of
Technology, was established on May
25, 1962 by spouses Dr. Barbara Yap-Angeles
and Mr. Agustin P. Angeles, and their children,
namely, Rosario, Lutgarda, Emmanuel, Antonio,
Jesusa, Josefina and Lourdes. After only less
than nine years of successful operation, it was
granted University status on April 16, 1971 by
the Philippines Department of Education,
Culture and Sports.

Motivated by the sincere desire to perpetuate the
missionary commitment of providing relevant and
quality education, the founding family executed a
Deed of Donation of their shareholdings in favor
of the foundation as starting fund which resulted
to the relinquishment of their ownership and
proprietary rights. AUF became a non-stock, non-
profit educational foundation on December 4,
1975 when it was incorporated under Republic
Act No. 6055 or the Foundation Law. Today, all
donations and bequests given to the AUF are tax
deductible.

Given that the Universitys students and
employees were predominantly Catholic, the
founding family decided to convert AUF to a
Catholic university on February 14, 1978, thereby
making it the first in Central Luzon and the
fourteenth in the Philippines.

Realizing the need for a modern medical facility to
serve as the base hospital for its medical and
allied medical students, AUF established and



inaugurated the AUF Medical Center (AUFMC) on
February 23, 1990. Licensed for 125 beds, the
AUFMC is the only private tertiary teaching,
training and research hospital in Central Luzon
today.

In recognition of its exemplary performance
through the triad higher education functions of
instruction, research and community service,
AUF was granted autonomous status by the
Philippine Commission on Higher Education
(CHED) on October 27, 2003, thereby empowering
it to introduce innovations and function more
independently.

Now on its 47
th
year, AUF is proud to have
produced a total of 176 board topnotchers in
Medicine, Nursing, Education, Accountancy,
Engineering, Criminology, Physical Therapy,
Medical Technology and Occupational Therapy.
According to CHED and PRC records, AUF today
ranks 5
th
among universities in the entire
Philippines with at 11 to 16 academic programs
requiring government licensure examinations.

ADMINISTRATION



he Board of Trustees is the highest
governing body of the University. It
is composed of distinguished men
and women from education, business,
government, judiciary and the clergy. Past
members of the board include incumbent
Philippine President Gloria Macapagal-
Arroyo, Former President Diosdado P.
Macapagal, Former Senator Jose J. Roy,
Most Rev. Oscar V. Cruz, Senator Manuel A.
Roxas II, among others.

The Board is assisted by the Management
Committee tasked to oversee the daily
management and operations of the
University. Under the supervision of the
Management Committee are the deans and
heads of different academic and
administrative offices.

The University encourages shared
leadership and participatory management
in its effort to address the growing
demands of the academic community.

FACULTY & STAFF

oday, AUF is staffed with 532 highly qualified faculty members. For their
continuing professional development, scholarships and grants are extended to
support their graduate studies and participation in international training
programs. Current faculty-student ratio is 1:15, thereby ensuring quality instruction
and close supervision of teaching and learning activities.

Another 298 non-teaching personnel (NTP) provide administrative support to the
University in carrying out its goals and objectives.

Directly under the supervision of deans and heads,
both faculty and NTP are provided equal opportunity to
take active involvement in professional organizations,
both locally and internationally. This is encouraged in
order that they remain in the mainstream of their
profession while keeping the University abreast with
the latest innovations useful and beneficial to the
academe.

CAMPUSES & FACILITIES


UF today operates in four (4) strategically located campuses. It has a total of 87
classrooms, 46 different laboratories, 74 dormitory rooms, 26 discussion rooms, 6
internet rooms and 3 audio-visual rooms. Fully air-conditioned, these facilities provide a
learning environment conducive to teaching, learning and research activities.

COLLEGE CAMPUS

The College Campus is located along
McArthur Highway, Angeles City,
Philippines, about 80 kilometers north of
Metro Manila. It sits on a two- hectare lot
and is home to administration offices,
School of Medicine and the Colleges of
Nursing, Allied Medical Professions,
Education, Engineering, Criminal Justice
Education, Arts & Sciences, Computer
Studies. It also houses the following facilities: Our Lady of Grace Chapel, St. Cecilias
Auditorium, AUF Covered Court, Information Technology Training Center and the Our Lady of
Lourdes Library Building.

AUF MEDICAL CENTER: The dream that almost remained a dream

The AUFMC is the first and only private tertiary
teaching, training and research hospital in Central
Luzon established on February 23, 1990. It serves as
the base hospital of AUF students in the medicine,
nursing and allied medical professions. Located
adjacent to the College Campus, it is licensed for
125-beds and equipped with state-of-the-art medical
facilities.

AUF PROFESSIONAL SCHOOLS

The AUF Professional Schools (AUFPS) is located
opposite the AUF Medical Center. Inaugurated by
President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo on December 16,
2004, it is home to the School of Law, Graduate School
and the College of Business Administration. Composed
of the north and south wings, the AUFPS houses
internet rooms, libraries, lecture rooms and offices.

AUF INTEGRATED SCHOOL

The AUF Integrated School is located
5-minutes away from the College Campus and
is home to the Grade School and High School
Departments. Its complete facilities, spacious
grounds and quiet surroundings provide for
an environment conducive to learning.


UNIVERSITY HOSTEL

The University Hostel opened its doors to student and
faculty residents in 1997. Located 5-minutes away
from the College Campus, it is complete with
amenities for comfortable, safe and accessible
dormitory accommodation.

The University Hostel is also equipped with a
laboratory kitchen and simulated hotel rooms for the
exclusive use of students pursuing Hotel and
Restaurant Management.

AUF blessed and inaugurated the AUF Residences on June 12, 2009 with AUF Chairman and
Pampanga Archbishop Paciano B. Aniceto officiating. This new five-storey building provides
hotel-like accommodations to AUF students, faculty and guests, and serves as the hotel
laboratory of BS Hotel and Restaurant Management students.

NETWORKS & LINKAGES



AUF recognizes the importance of establishing strategic networks and linkages to
provide faculty and students enriched learning experiences while exploring possibilities
for collaborative work in research and education.

ACADEMIC COOPERATION

At the forefront of establishing networks and linkages among foreign education
institutions is the AUF Office of International Affairs. It spearheads collaborative
undertakings which include student and faculty exchange, joint research projects,
cultural exchange and travel grants.

One of our pace setting in academic collaborations is the establishment of the AUF
College of Medicine Extension Campus at the St. Andrews International Academy in
Pune, India on June 29, 2005.

BUSINESS & INDUSTRY LINKAGE

Partnership with business and industry provide
support to the University through donation
programs, on-the-job training agreements,
scholarship grants and placement services. Joint
undertakings in community development services
are also undertaken through medical-dental
missions, livelihood development and literacy
programs. In the spirit of reciprocity, AUF assists
partner industries by providing manpower training
development and mentoring activities.



A recent addition to AUFs roster
of industry partners is Texas
Instruments (TI), Philippines which
donated a digital signal
processing (DSP) laboratory in
2006 for the exclusive use of our
Computer Engineering faculty and
students. Very recently, TI turned
over US$ 2 million worth of
equipment to AUF for laboratory
use.

ALUMNI SUPPORT

While AUF is still a relatively young university, its many
graduates who are gainfully employed abroad attest to its
world-class standard. AUF involves its alumni in academic
and community development projects. The alumni,
specifically those from the College of Nursing, have pledged
assistance to the University by raising funds to support
special projects such as the expansion of the AUF Medical
Center.


Angeles University Foundation has already
provided the curriculum for training for the skills
needed by Texas Instruments -- more jobs for our
Kabalens here in Pampanga.

Our workforce is well-educated. Look at that, they
need a specific kind of skill, right away Angeles
University Foundation can offer it. Thats how
educated our workforce is. That is how we intend our
educational system to be responsive.

COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT


AUF believes that education institutions
play an important role in nation building not
only through human resource development,
but by active participation in community
development projects as well.

All throughout the year, the University
provides extension service to adopted
communities belonging to marginalized
sectors of Philippine society such as the
urban poor, out-of-school youth, charitable
institutions, cultural minorities, among
many others. Programs in public health,
literacy, livelihood and poverty alleviation
are conducted on a regular basis in
partnership with government and non-
government organizations. Community
service requires not only leadership and a
deep sense of social responsibility. It also
entails financial resources to keep it viable.
Sustaining development projects is a
challenge that AUF has met through the
years.

In the first quarter of 2007 alone, five (5)
medical missions have been initiated and
implemented for the benefit of some 4,200
indigent patients in collaboration with local
and foreign benefactors.

One formidable partner of AUF in this area
is the Manhattan Eye, Ear & Throat Hospital
in New York which conducted an eye
medical-surgical mission in January 2007.
With an imputed cost of US$ 48,000.00 ( Php
2.4 million ), the medical-surgical mission
benefited indigent cataract patients coming
from Central Luzon, Philippines.

Negotiations are also underway with the
Black Eyed Peas for a benefit concert to
support AUF scholars and indigent patients
at the AUF Medical Center.



For many years now, AUF has been
adopting public elementary schools in
Angeles City. AUF supports them
through the donation of equipment and by
providing free training programs for their
faculty.

BENEFACTORS





































As a non-profit, non-stock educational foundation,
AUF depends largely on the generosity of
benefactors for various expansion projects. Over the
years, it has received substantial financial assistance
from benefactors in Europe, Asia and the United
States.

For this purpose, the Angeles University
Development Foundation was established on
November 29, 1984 to provide management and
financial support to both AUF and the AUF Medical
Center. Currently based in Virginia, it was granted
recognition by the US Treasury Department on
August 23, 1985 to receive donations and was
exempted from the payment of federal taxes.

AUDF was instrumental in acquiring for AUF financial
grants from USAID through the American Schools
and Hospitals Abroad (ASHA) for the construction of
the AUF Our Lady of Lourdes Library Hall and the
AUF Information Technology Training Center (ITTC).
It was also instrumental in obtaining hospital
equipment and furniture for AUFMC from the St.
Anthony Family Medical Center in Milwaukee and the
following hospitals in California: Cedars-Sinai
Medical Center, Brookside Hospital, Robert F.
Kennedy Medical Center, Sierra Madre Memorial
Hospital, Tracy Community Memorial Hospital,
Mayers Memorial Hospital, Children's Medical Center
of Northern California, Kaiser North Hospitals, Kaiser
South Hospitals, and the Queen of Angels Hollywood
Presbyterian Hospital.

The AUF Information Technology
Center is a joint project of AUDF and
ASHA-USAID. Inaugurated on
September 5, 2000, this modern
facility has brought AUF to the
forefront of IT education.
The AUF Our Lady of Lourdes Hall
was constructed also through the
generous support of ASHA-USAID.
This spacious and full air-conditioned
library facility which is home to
50, 616 titles ( in 66, 674 volumes) of
print materials and 3,750 on-line
library resources, was inaugurated on
December 4, 1987.
