Proposed Action Research Outline

The outline for the facultys action research can follow an outline used by most journal articles published
on the Canadian Journal of Action Research (CJAR),

Following CJAR Outline

Title:
Abstract

I. Introduction
a. Problem Rationale
b. Literature Review

II. Research Framework
a. Method (Theoretical Framework)
b. Data
c. Interpretation and Analysis

III. Findings
IV. Action Planning

Contents of the outline could either follow a more personal approach of documentation and
implementation as if writing a personal journal or following a more scientific approach having contents
written in the third person.

CJAR standards states that each Action Research written should generally answer the question How
can I improve my practice?, include a section that describes how data was collected and analyzed and
includes alternative forms of data representation (ie. Photographs, tables, poems) that connects the study
to existing literature.

Below are brief descriptions of outline contents (based on conventional research outlines):

I. Introduction includes Problem Rationale or the Purpose of the Study and the Literature Review.
A. Problem Rationale states the main reason why a research must be conducted. This descriptive
includes the Research Question and Area of Focus
B. Literature Review has been included in most researches for it identifies the research gaps
which further support the Rationale of the research, an essential part that proves the validity
and significance of the research to be conducted.

II. Research Framework states how the research is conducted, includes a Theoretical
Framework, Defined Variables, Statistical Treatment of the Variables, Interpretation of the
Results and Analysis.

A. Method a descriptive on how the research question was formulated. Could include a
theoretical framework to illustrate the process of formulating the hypothesis.
B. Data includes the process on how data was gathered. Also includes tables and graph
indicating descriptive statistics of data collected.
C. Interpretation and Analysis states the statistical analysis of data, interpretation and
correlation of each variable to identify trends from which the research could draw conclusion
on.

III. Findings summarizes the results and identifies congruency of each variables based on data
analyzed.

IV. Action Planning summarizes the measures to be taken to further improve the researchers teaching
approaches, techniques, or improve overall classroom performance, optimize workload based
on the findings and data interpretation. Or could validate relevance of reviewed literature to
the plan of action executed within the duration of the research.

The Proposed Research Outline still follows the ideology taught by Dr. Allan de Guzman in his Seminar.
The 8 Ms and the methodology from the example Action Research Journals included in the Seminar
Information Map were still used as a reference to develop the description of each content of the proposed
outline. The proposed outline was translated from the Journals of CJAR to create a convention for writing
an Action Research.
