1950s Robert Pierce founded World Vision in 1950. He travelled around the USA to help raise awareness about poverty. In 1953, child sponsorship began. Sponsorship program is growing and now has 13,200 children in orphanages Work begins in India 1960s Work expands to more countries Nearly 27,000 children are sponsored Bob Pierce resigns due to ill health 1970s 193,000 children sponsored Relief program aids 446,000 people worldwide
1980s 300,000 children sponsored in more than 30 countries 1990s Responding to war, genocide, coups and more 2000s Tsunami devastates South Asia and 3,700 World Vision staff members respond Hurricane Katrina hits USA, World Vision members respond immediately 2010s Haiti earthquake and Japan earthquake/tsunami relief and rebuilding efforts
They have a wide variety of programs and projects, including helping in refugee camps in Africa, providing school supplies for children in countries all over the world, helping villages get clean water and food.
